The myth of Tur is a short Slavic myth that originated in Central Bosnia and Herzegovina. In some Slavic countries Tur means breech, but in some parts of Bosnia Tur means bull. Now time for the tale. There are very few accounts of Tur but we know he is described as a giant brown bull with curved and spiky horns that lives under ground. He lives deep underground, under the dirt, roots and insects that burrow under the earth crust. He is suspended here, under the crust but not so deep that he is in the molten lava or whatever may be at the center of the earth (if we believe stories of Jules Verne). Whenever Tur moves his horn, he scrapes across the crust of the earth, causing earthquakes to occur. This is contrary to our understanding of the plates of the earth as the root cause of earthquakes.
There are other tales concerning Tur. One of these is an apocalyptic story, that one day he will move his whole body and that this will cause the end of the world, as it will change the rotation of the earth or it will just knock all balance out. Similarly there is also a very short story that he will either on that day or a instead of that day will come from under the earth and join us on the surface, but the belief is that if he does that the earth will fall, and be no more.
