Existence
Cailey Merulla
It was a feeling like none other. there was a sharp prick in my left arm and then just pain. An excruciating sear of pure fire. I felt my entire body go limp and rapidly drop in temperature. My veins bulged as the artificial blood rushed to my heart, freezing it in time. Then it all stopped and a new pain formed. It felt like my head was going to explode, like I had been drowning in the ocean for hours and my lungs just wouldn't give in. Thoughts, memories, dreams, they all flooded in my mind and found their places like pieces to a puzzle. No matter how hard I tried to push them out, they kept on coming, they kept erasing my old life and replacing it with the new one. The one I dreaded living.
I wanted to scream. So loud that all of the doctor's ears would bleed. It might've bought me some time, to save myself and the others. But I couldn't, I didn't have control. The shriek welled up in my throat and just sat there, making it almost impossible to breathe. I felt something being slipped onto my wrist, probably just to identify my body while I was out, while I was in my L.I.F.E.
I heard the heart monitor slowing, barely making a sound. My old life was being ripped away from me, my family, my friends, my home, everything. It terrified me, not that I could do anything about it. Doctors scurried around, trying to get their holographic computers up and running.
So many questions were roaming through my mind; Why me? Why is this happening? Who would do such a thing? And to so many innocent people? What happened to our world? What would happen to me? Who did this?
I did this.
I did this to myself.
I did this to the society.
But I didn't choose this.
I knew it would be over soon, that I'd wake up with my family and live a normal teenage life, or L.I.F.E. It happens to most people, and now it's happening to me. They wouldn't tell me what it stood for, or what the procedure consisted of, they just came and told me "It's time." I fought, I tried so hard to push past the people in black armor coming to take me, coming to take my life away. But when it's 2 A.D.E.D. (uh-ded) guards against one teenage girl, the chances of the teenage girl winning are very slim. Plus I was shot with a paralyzing bullet before I could even lunge at them.
So many voices were floating above me "I hope this one makes it" One of the voices sounded
"She's too valuable"
Then everything turned to nothing

Cassidy...Cassidy...."Cassidy! Wake up!" I squinted my eyes open, shielding them with my hand from the burning light pouring through the window. As my eyes slowly adjusted to the new found scenery my younger sister came into view. "Brailey?" I said, my voice hoarse from my slumber. "Wha-What time is it?" I asked my eyes fully open now. She pointed at the docking station holding my phone "6 o'clock, school time!" The little 9 year old bounced out of my room calling "Breakfast soon! Better hurry up!" God she can be so annoying yet adorable at the same time.
With all the strength I had, which wasn't much, I sluggishly pulled myself out of my, now destroyed, bed. It took every ounce of my little energy to keep myself from falling face first onto my rug. And even then I had to grab my bedside for support to stand up straight. I'm never this weak in the morning, what did I do last night?
