Finding the unwanted

We were calmly walking along the road, lost in conversation but then something unexpected struck us. We spotted a perimeter covered by those "Police line do not cross" tapes. We drew closer to the tape and we saw it... A body still uncovered , surrounded by the forensics team and some police squads.

I don't know what struck me but I started staring at it, I noticed that the deceased was shot twice in the torso by probably a small caliber weapon as the bullet wounds were not that extreme. One of the first things I noticed after that was it's peaceful expression , it was like someone had... Released him from a great suffering... Just like someone offered that person the eternal rest , free from consciousness and the burdens that come with it... Is the concept of death something to be feared? Do you wrong someone by giving him/her eternal rest?

Those were some of the questions I asked myself while I stared at the lifeless pale body with wide eyes , almost like I did not mind the crime that just happened...

I ended up staring at it for almost ten minutes , staring at the defunct person , during those ten minutes it was like something changed completely in me , now I want to release people from their earthly burdens...Give the eternal rest to those who do wrong , as those are the most tormented , they cannot escape from their consciousness and thus they do evil so that they can relieve themselves...

After a while I looked and Sasha and there she was , staring at him too , but I decided to break the silence by asking :

"Is it someone you know?" I asked , she seemingly woke up from her trance and muttered :

"Huh...Oh , no! I was just shocked , I had just never witnessed such a crime by my own eyes..." Her expression had something odd , like she was lying about being shocked , because she did look intrigued... Just like I was.

I stared at it again until one of the officers noticed us and approached us.

"Move on , nothing to see here." He said with a strong confident voice. We just nodded and carried on. We returned to the planned route but nothing else was said between me and Sasha , we both just blankly stared ahead , thinking about what was seen.

And so I returned home , no goodbye's were had , just a blank stare into eachother's eyes. The rest of the day went fairly normal , I started listenning to some Slayer , Iron maiden and Metallica , just for the old times sake , and probably because she reccomended me to do so.

I don't think she's that weird now , we share a lot of stuff in common , now I even think she's like a projection of my older self with the exception of me being a male , I used to be a loner , just like she is now , and I also used to wear the same kind of clothes as her , now I'm this popular kid with friends I don't even like...

I fell asleep on the couch watching TV soon after I got home. When I was suddenly woken up by the vibration of my phone on the glass table, which sounded as loud, if not louder than an alarm clock, it was a text, not very surprisingly from Sasha. But what surprised me the most was the content of the text itself...

"Did you also notice its peaceful expression? Like he had nothing to fear or worry about... Like someone gave him eternal peace..." My eyes widened when I saw this text, I even checked if I had sent it to myself in some kind of freak accident, I started to shake like a mad man but was able to reply:

"What do you mean?" I replied deciding to play dumb, to see if she wasn't messing with me...

"You know what I mean; I caught you staring at him too..." I started sweating at that moment, the fact that we both felt the same feeling sounded so abnormal, impossible and unlikely... Eventually I calmed myself down and decided to reply with a few questions...

"Did you think the murder was wrong? Do you think the person who committed the crime should be punished?" I asked, with a bit of hesitation.

"No to both questions. The person who committed the crime did a holy act, which was giving the tormented soul its eternal demise."

I almost dropped the phone after reading the text, feelings of fear, uncertainty, doubt and confusion did not take long to flood my head, so many questions arose like how did we share the same views even though we haven't discussed it once? How do I know that this isn't just some nightmare? I couldn't believe this was happening...But after all, this is the change I was looking for in my life... I decided to embrace it; this could be the start of something new, something exciting. I gathered the courage to reply:

"Actually, I agree with you..." I pressed the send button and let out a big sigh, patiently waiting for her response... I finally got a response:

"It is best if we speak about this personally, in private. See ya tomorrow! :3" Her final text intrigued me , it was serious , but the ending was so casual , like this was an everyday situation to her , but I shrugged it off and sent back a text agreeing. I had dinner and went to bed after a while.

I woke up before the alarm with a headache, it was probably 6 am. I did the usual morning routine and went to the kitchen; I'm not exactly a coffee person but today was an exception. Some minutes later I get a text, it's from Sasha. She sends one every morning...

"Hey Gary, I’m looking forward to seeing you!" I read it and then I sighed, but replied with a "Sure." anyways. I finish my coffee and toast and head towards the school. I walked slowly, as it was still early. I hear some vigorous steps behind me and surprise, surprise it is Sasha.

"Hey Gary, How are you!?" She says that with a wide smile, I can't help to smile back and reply.

"I'm...Great!" I say with a small smile. "So… About yesterday..." I suddenly changed the subject.

"I was just going to talk about that..." Her expression changes into a blank one, what she proposed next gave me the chills...But I liked it nonetheless....
