"Agent Jauregui, office please."
Two tired eyes that had been mindlessly gazing at a laptop screen, found the back of a grey haired man's head. Mr. Davis was already almost in his office when the dark haired woman realised she should probably be getting up to follow him. She shoved her chair back before making her way towards the two big glass doors. She felt the eyes of her colleagues glued onto her as she walked.
"Good luck." Janice, a 40 year old woman she'd never really spoken to, told her. She gave her a short nod before pushing the doors open and seeing her boss sit behind his desk, a cup of coffee in his hand.
"Sir?" She said, fidgeting with the hem of her dark blue shirt while the man looked up from his paper and cleared his throat.
"Y-yes, Jauregui. Sit, please." He gestured to one of the two leather chairs standing across his desk. She did as she was told while staring at the papers shortly, wondering what this would be about.
Would this be the day she'd be fired? Is this how that went? She hadn't done anything wrong, had she?
"How are you feeling?"
The question took her by surprise. She'd been working at the Miami Police Department for three years now, and apart from the therapist she was ordered to see once a month, never had anyone really asked her how she was feeling. "I- I'm good sir, thanks." She replied, tapping her finger onto her black jeans while she looked at the man. Was she supposed to ask how he is now or-
"Good." He said then. "I know your last operation went a bit extreme.."
She nodded, her pulse quickening when thinking back of how it all went down about two months ago. "I'm alright now." She replied shortly, not wanting to go into detail. She was a professional, she knew what she could handle.
"Good. So that means I can assign you to a new operation?" He asked, his light-blue eyes gazing into hers as he took a sip from his coffee. "You're ready?"
She swallowed. She was usually confident when it came to her work. She what she was able to do, she knew she was good. But because it almost went wrong the last time, her ego had gotten just a bit smaller.
"Y-yes, Sir." She said. "I think I am. What kind of operation are we talking about?"
"Undercover." Her boss told her then. "A few months at least."
"A few months? That sounds big. Who are we-"
"Have you ever heard of the name Armando Perez?"
She scoffed, almost wanting to say 'duh'. She figured her boss wouldn't like it though and so she just nodded.
"He bought a house in North Coconut Grove a few months back. He lives there with his wife and we're thinking he runs his business from there now, instead of from his old home in Downtown Miami.
She remained quiet as she listened to what her boss had to tell her. She was curious which role she would be playing in this plan, if there even was a plan yet.
"We bought the house next to it, and you're gonna live there, become friends with them so we can collect evidence and eventually plan an invasion so we can catch him in the act and lock him up forever."
A smile tugged at her lips, she took a breath and looked down at her hands. "That's quite the plan you've got worked out."
"You'll be earning double your wage." The grey man added, making her look up again.
"Double?" She said. "You really want me to do this, huh?"
"We think you're the best candidate. You're the best undercover agent we got on the team." Her boss said, which let her ego grow back again. She smiled. "There will be a whole team of people around the operation and you'll be reporting every single detail of it in an online log. There will be a team meeting at a secret location every week and of course you'll have acces to certain equipment to collect the evidence."
