My pants were heard throughout the staircase as I walked down the stairs.......I was going insane......all I thought about was her.

"Mayu? Mayu! Where are you?!" I called out desperately. I layed my back against the wall and slid down slowly to the floor.

"How long have we been here?........it must be the middle of the night by now." I said breathlessly.

"My........am I ever thirty...." I panted licking my dry lips.

"Oh Mayu. Don't you realize how very worried I am about you?" I said, knowing I won't get a reply.

"How are you holding up right now, I wonder? what sorts of thoughts are swimming through your mind?" I looked at the stairs and prayed she'd run down them looking and shouting my name frantically.

"You scare easily........and you have such a fragile soul....you really do need me by your side." I could still remember that time.....

{Flashback}

"Shig, Bro! Wait up!" a familiar voice called out as I began walking to the front doors of the school. I turned around and in the distance I saw Mayu running towards me.

"Huh? Whats wrong? Not going to club today?" Her voice echoed as she stopped running.

"Hmm.....that's a good question. What IS wrong?" I asked her.

"They're holding auditions for the lead, y'know!" Mayu exclaimed with a smile.

"Oh, I know. But........I just don't think I'm cut out for the role." I responded.

"How come? I mean, I've seen how much you want it." Mayu questioned.

"You've been pouring over that script for the last month!" She exclaimed.

"Not to mention practicing lines in the gym equipment room......" She added. Wait a minute-

"Y-You saw that?!........how......E-Embarrassing.......Next time, you should say something!" I stammered, a slight blush across my face.

"But you were so into it! I was actually just kinda happy to see you in your element like that." Mayu giggled.

"Well....either way, I'm giving up on that particular goal." I sighed.

"But why?! After all that study and practice........-"

"Everyone knows the parts in our productions are based off of popularity, not acting talent." I answered.

"Mayu.......you're an upright, idealistic individual..... Your probably gonna think I'm a bit of a spineless coward for this........but I refuse to attend an audition when I know it wont make a bit of difference." I stated.

"Aww......." She started looking at the floor.

"I truly hate it. I always make an effort to attend social events and put up on a pleasant front....... But.....Well...... I guess, it all comes down to the fact that I'm simply not well-liked." I said as I looked at her. Then she picked up her head with a tint of red on her cheeks.

"But........I like you!"

"Your a good actor, Shig. You shine in the spotlight, really shine! And it looks like you're enjoying it, too!.......but if you really hate it that much, then yeah......it's really not worth it." Mayu said as she smiled.

"I mean, if you have to force yourself, then you're not having any fun at all, right? And what's the point in that?" Mayu asked as she went besides me.
