Heard you're new in town

Want someone to show you round

Well no-one knows this place just quite like me

Well I don't hang with the crowd, where I go we're dressing down

I take you where the music plays for free

Saturday, I woke up early and took extra care with my outfit. Harry had come through and gotten me the interview with Niall, and I was due to meet him for coffee at 9 at a small café around the corner from my condo. I put on a cute floral dress and a peach colored blazer. I was going for a professional but cute look.

“Honey, you look nice,” my mom said as I came downstairs. “What’s the occasion?”

“I have an interview set up for that Seventeen contest I told you about. Niall Horan is meeting me for coffee in half an hour, so I’ve really got to run.”

“Isn’t he from that boy band you like?” she asked, smirking.

“Mom, please. Now that I’ve met Harry, and am about to embark on a professional relationship with Niall, I’ve decided it’s no longer appropriate to fan girl over them. I will just quietly appreciate their music.”

“Yeah right. Have fun sweetie,” my mom said, kissing me on the top of my head. I sighed and started the short walk to the café. Once I reached it, I saw Niall sitting at the back. I took a deep breath, pushed my sunglasses up on top of my head, shook out my curls a bit, and then walked over, my flats clicking dully across the tiled floor.

“Hi Niall, I’m Lauren.” He stood up as I extended my hand to shake his, instead engulfing me in a huge hug. Of course, I’d heard of the infamous Horan Hugs, but had been a bit skeptical. A hug is a hug, right? But this guy who I had literally not even fully introduced myself to was busy wrapping his arms tightly around my waist, burying his head into my shoulder, and lifting me an inch or two off the ground.

“It’s nice to meet you Lauren,” he said, pulling away and leaning over to pull my chair away from the table so I could sit down.

“Yeah, it’s really great of you to agree to do this. I know you must be super busy.”

“Oh no, I’ve always got time for fans. And reporters. Especially pretty ones.”

I rolled my eyes and reached into my purse, pulling out a tape recorder and a notebook. “Do you mind if I record this? I want to make sure I get everything down.”

“Go ahead. It’s for a project?”

“Well, I’m trying to get an internship with Seventeen Magazine, which is basically my dream job. Harry saw my application and suggested I interview you. It was a chance I pretty much couldn’t turn down.”

“So you want to be a journalist?” he asked, playing with the teabag in his mug.

“Yes. But enough about me, this interview is about you, stop distracting me.”

Niall replied with an eyebrow waggle and a cheeky grin, sticking the very tip of his tongue out of his mouth. Oh boy. It was going to be very difficult to keep this professional.

“Naomi. Chill out, please.” I said into my cellphone, blowing a piece of my bangs out of my face in exasperation.
