When I wake up the light is slipping through the curtains, the sound of birds chirping outside fills the otherwise silent room. I sit up in bed and rub my eyes as I adjust to the morning atmosphere in my room, taking a deep breath before sighing loudly.
Today is the day I start studying at True Cross Academy and begin my training towards becoming an exorcist. I've been dreaming of studying there ever since I was young, hoping to be a powerful exorcist like my mother. Unfortunately, she won't be here to see me on my journey; she died during a mission 8 years ago at the hands of an upper level demon and in regards to my father, my mother told me he died before I was born. I was left without any living relatives so the Vatican found me a home where a single woman lived who had always wanted children of her own. She was a retired exorcist so she was aware of the different species of demon and could see them like I could. The Vatican thought it was best for me to live a quiet life here after my mother's death.
Despite wanting to be an exorcist, I despised the Vatican; they were responsible for sending my mother on the mission that killed her but I knew I had to keep my feelings on this matter to myself in order to reach my ultimate goal.

I slid out of bed and stretched, yawning again as a did. I looked around my room, taking in the scene for the last time. As well as moving into the academy dorm rooms, the director of the academy would also be becoming my new parental guardian, which was an apparent arrangement my mother had come up with before she died. I had packed my bag the night before, filling it with an assortment of clothes, manga and a couple of my favourite plushies that were of a nine-tailed fox and a Coal Tar. Coal Tars were one of my favourite demons as when they were calm, they just drifted through the air and were kinda cute. I've been able to see demons ever since I was born and thanks to the teachings of my mother when I was younger, I can recognise demons easily and aren't usually scared of them unlike most people. After taking in the nostalgic atmosphere of my room I decided to have a quick bath and get dressed, wearing the True Cross Academy uniform that had had been sent to me a couple of days in advance. I looked in the mirror and brushed my long, white hair that fell down to just below my butt. I remember my mother having the same long, white hair that resembled freshly fallen snow and how she separated the top and bottom layer.

I looked at the digital clock beside my bed l and saw the time was 9:55am, 5 minutes before the director of the academy said he'd be arriving to take me to the academy and that he would also be having some additional guests with him. I took a deep breath and grabbed my bag along with my weapon that I would be training with during my time at the academy. It was a silver scythe with a rose ornament that was just above where the handle began, the handle being engraved with black thorns and vines however it was in the form of a key when I wasn't using it as it was just easier to carry that way. I received the scythe for my 13th birthday, as a present from my already deceased mother and I had practiced with it everyday ever since. It is possessed by a demon that is engulfed in flames called 'Furaribi', the third flame in Gehenna next to Satan's blue flame and the black flame Yamantaka. Furabi will usually manifest itself if I ask nicely. Myself and Fura, which is the nickname I have chosen to give him, are actually really close and he is surprisingly funny but also flirtatious, which I have to admit is irritating sometimes. Some may call me a professional in handling a scythe but I don't think that's true at all, I know I can learn more and only grow as a scythe wielder. I'm actually choosing the meisters of 'knight' and 'tamer' when I become an exwire; they're the meisters my mother held as an Arc Knight, which is only one rank below the Paladin. She was truly a powerful exorcist and I'd like to follow in her footsteps and one day become an Arc knight myself or even the Paladin, but I know I have a long way to go before then. Even if I don't become an Arc knight, I don't really mind, I just want to prove myself and be a great exorcist.

Despite knowing a lot about my mother and her life as an exorcist, I know nothing about her past and what she was like before I was born but I have no grandparents as far as I'm aware so I haven't been able to ask about her; I was beginning to question whether or not I really wanted to know.

I was brought out from the depth of my thought by my adoptive mother calling me from downstairs "Violet! The director of true cross is here"

Violet. The name my mother gave me when I was born. Apparently because of my purple eyes and the fact I was born surrounded by the flowers who also shared that name.

I quickly made sure I had all my belongings whilst tying my scythe in its key form around my neck for safe keeping and then ran down the stairs as to not keep my new guardian waiting. I left my bag in the hallway and walked into the living room where I saw my adoptive mother standing across from a tall man with purple hair, wearing what I could only describe as a clown suit.
As if sensing my presence, the man turned around and almost smirked at my appearance "ahh you must be Violet. You've grown up quite a bit since the last time I saw you"
I looked at him, confusion plastering my face. I'm positively sure I've never met this man before. "oh, my you probably don't remember me all that well. My name is Mephisto Pheles but officially I am known as Johann Faust the fifth"

I decided to let go of my confusion temporarily, guessing that my question would hopefully be answered later. "nice to meet you sir Pheles" I said shyly. This man was indeed handsome, his clothing was strange and yet it only attracted me more. Was he really to be my new guardian?

"well if you don't mind dear, we're on quite a tight schedule so we should really be going" he said before turning around to my adoptive mother, exchanging some paperwork, which I didn't really care to look at in detail. He makes his own way to the front door and I quickly follow as to not be left behind, slipping my shoes on with ease before walking out. I notice a pink limousine parked in front of the open metal gate leading to the house. 'why does that not surprise me' I thought. Before following Mephisto towards the luxurious vehicle I turn around and give my adoptive mother a hug, crying slightly "thanks for looking after me all this time" I say. She's not my real mother but she's looked after me for the past eight years and raised me as if I were her own child. I pull away from the hug to see her smiling "its been my pleasure dear. Don't forget that if you ever need somewhere to go then there is always a room for you here" she says in a kind tone. I nod in response, wiping away my tears and smiling before running towards the limousine.

I hand my bags to the driver and walk around to the entrance, getting into the vehicle. It's even more luxurious on the inside with plush, maroon leather seats at the top, bottom and right-hand side and then a sweets cart on the other side, holding a variety od different sweets, some of which I'd never seen before but was too nervous to try and thought it disrespectful to ask.

I saw Mephisto sitting all the down at the bottom, facing the front of the limousine, whistling a tune to himself as he waited but I also noticed two other figures on the right-hand side watching me as I sat down. As I studied their faces, I began to recognise them...Rin and Yukio? I thought.
