Chapter One

I carefully rise from my temporary cot, being cautious not to move to fast and risk getting dizzy due to my recent surgery. Through the thick glass walls I can see the hustle of many clinicians and theorists, many trying to stay on schedule for the surgeries. I press my thumb to the scanner on the left of my cot, waiting for my on-call nurse Terri to arrive in my lonely room. While waiting for my nurse, I pick at the loose skin around my fingernail.

Terri enters my room at a half-walk, half-jog pace with a nervous  expression painted blankly on her face. "Are you feeling okay?" She questions me concern laced in her voice. Terri has always been over worked about my well-being since my first surgery at the age of three.  "Phenomenal" I reply to her unnecessary question. "Just hungry" I add.

"I'll go get your meal" she says before scurrying out. My head is throbbing where the bandage covered the newest incision in my head. I reach my hand up to the location of the cut, gently feeling the surface. I press harder, but wince when pain floods through my head.

Taking a deep breath, I lean over getting the tellepad, turning on the low quality sanatorium tellescreen. Gliding through the seemingly endless view choices of TV shows, I finally decide on watching the Live broadcast of the newest prodigious that are being inaugurated at this very second. I can't help but be jealous of them until remembering that I will be in the same position in 23 days. The number of prodigious is slowly decreasing, and today's group only consists of four. I have only heard rumors about resons for the decrease of prodigious. Most of the rumors were about more newer, more risky, higher expected resulting tests have been being performed on the less valuable, lower rank prodigious. One of which I am.

I just hope that I am not selected for it, because so far there have been no successful surgeries yet. The prodigious are ranked in four levels; depending on what skills they posses and how well that it was enhanced by a surgery or sometimes multiple surgeries.

Within that the ranks are determined by the best of the best get in one of the top two ranks, the averagely skilled get in third rank, and the others that are just extra that have gone wrong get into the fourth and lowest rank; the one that I have been placed in for my whole life, if you can call my experiences of many days in surgery and in bed rest living.

Authors Note- Hi. I usually dont write books of this genre on wattpad but I thought I would give it a try. This is just a short chapter but the others will be longer. I also need somebody to create a cover and if its good ill use it and give whoever it is a dedication. Please vote and comment if you like it! Bye.
