May 24th
I wake up to my annoyingly loud alarm and let out a small groan. My phone tells me that it is 6 in the morning. I roll out of bed reluctantly and head to my closet to get clothes. Smelling the breakfast cooking downstairs made me change swiftly. I rush downstairs and smile at my stepdad, Matthew, cooking breakfast as per usual.

"It smells delicious, you're making your famous pancakes again aren't you?" I grin at Matthew as I sit at the bar in the kitchen. He nodded and briefly turned around to smile at me.

"Indeed I am. I'm thinking of opening a breakfast diner actually. What should I call it?" I think about his question before answering.

"How about something simple like Matthew's Diner? Or Johnson's Diner?" He stays quiet, thinking about it.

"Maybe but we'll have to see just in case those names are taken already. If they are we could call it something like 'Matthew's Famous Pancakes', but of course have other stuff on the menu. A lot of my friends and family sure do love my pancakes so they could recommend it to their friends and so on. Then my pancakes would truly be famous." I let out a small laugh as he finishes cooking and brings me a plate and a glass of milk.

"Yeah definitely." I say, somewhat sarcastically.I eat my breakfast quickly and get out of my seat. I put the dish in the dishwasher and retreat to my room to finish getting ready.

Grabbing my makeup bag, I go into the bathroom and start my daily routine: brush and braid my hair, brush my teeth, face wash and moisturizer, and finally my makeup. I only apply mascara, eyeshadow and a pink toned lip gloss for today. Once I am done, I sit on my bed and play on my phone until Juliet arrives.

Juliet messages me when she gets here at 7. I grab my bookbag, charger and earbuds. I run downstairs.

"Tell Mom that I love her when she wakes up." I say to Matthew as I give him a quick hug goodbye. He nods and smiles, and I leave out the door. I see Juliet's car in the driveway and get in the backseat, as my other friend, Tyler, is up front. We pull out and head to school.

We arrive at school and abandon her car in the parking lot. As we head into school my vision begins to blur and I hear a loud ringing in my ears, but it only lasted about 2 seconds so I shrugged it off. I walk to the lockers with Juliet and Tyler beside me, since we all have our lockers next to each others.

"I am so glad that today is our last day of Junior year," I say, relieved. Juliet gave me a mischievous grin.

"And guess what important date is coming up soon!" She exclaims with a big smile on her face. Tyler catches on as soon as I do. I roll my eyes.

"It's not that big of a deal! I'm only turning 18." I laugh. Juliet huffs.

"Of course it's a big deal! You're turning eighteen!" Tyler says enthusiastically.

I shrug and gather my stuff out of my locker and shove it into my book bag. Once again, the blurred vision and the ringing in my ear return, this time lasting around 15 seconds. I lose balance and fall to the floor as Tyler and Juliet kneel beside me worried. They both flood me asking 'Are you okay?' and 'What happened?'

"I don't know. Maybe I'm coming down with something?" I hope for the best as they pick me up from the floor.

"We're going to the nurse and you are going home!" Tyler says. I sigh and walk with them to the nurse's office.

Once we get there, she checks my vitals but everything seems to be okay. She sends me home to rest anyways just in case it happens again. I call my mom to inform her what has happened as the nurse writes Juliet and Tyler a pass to class. I sit in the front office until my mother arrives.

Not too long later, my mother arrives and comes in to get me. We head to her car and as I get into the passenger seat, my vision blurs again and the loud ringing occurs again. I grab my ears as if it were to help the ringing go away. It lasted for a solid minute this time. My mother realizes and gives me a worried look.

"Why is this happening?!" I exclaim, clearly annoyed. I look at my mom and she has the same concerned face, but it looks like she knows something that I don't. I shrug it off and buckle up as she drives off.

"It'll be okay Katherine," She says, grabbing my hand, "I don't know what's going on but it'll be fine."

Soon we arrive home and I immediately retreat to my bedroom. I set my bookbag on the ground and flop onto my bed as another wave of blurriness and loud ringing in my ears consumes me. I let out a loud groan into my pillow. This time it lasted about two minutes. I decided to  take a nap and sleep it off. I shut my eyes and hope for the best.
