•••I looked down at my watch as I rushed into the small building. Damn. 10 minutes late. Walking over the the front desk, I greeted the woman in the chair with a smile.
"Hi, I'm here for Mrs. Daniels. My appointment was-"
"Sign in." She cut me off with an attitude.
I squinted my eyes at her.
You are a changed woman Ana, just let it go. I preached to myself.
Ignoring her rudeness, I signed my name on the clipboard along with the time and date. Sitting the pen down, I turned around and found myself a seat. I opened up my phone to see I had missed a FaceTime call from my little brother Jackson. Sticking one of my earbuds in my ear, I called him back.
"Hey bubba, wassup?" I smiled once his face appeared.
"Hey Ana, are you busy?"
"Not really, you ok?"
He nodded his head.
"Yea, I just needed help with my math homework." He told me.
Jackson was in the fifth grade moving on to the sixth. He made all A's and was a quick learner, but math was just one of his weaknesses.
"I got you, what's the problem?" I asked.
"Ok it says, Shelly bought 7 packs of stickers with 11 stickers in each pack. How many sticker did Shelly buy?"
"Ok so what do you have to do with the 7 and the 11?"
"Add-"
I shook my head.
"Multiply! I have to multiply?" He raised his eyebrow at my a little.
"Mhm, so what's 11x7?" I tested.
"I- I don't know." He dropped his head.
I pouted a little. I hated seeing him like this, because I wanted him to have faith in himself.
"Its ok bubba, don't give up."
"But I don't know this stuff Ana!" His bottom lip started yo tremble.
"Hey, don't cry Jackson. You called me for help so I'm gonna help you. Ok, do you remember your multiples for 11?"
He looked of for a minute before nodding his head.
"Yea, I think so."
"So what are they?"
"11, 22, 33, um 44, 55, 66, 77-"
"Boom! And there's your answer."
"Ohh yea!" He smiled, writing his answer down.
"Thank Ana, I was stuck for like an hour."
"Its ok, I told you whenever you need help just to call me. That's what big sisters are for." I laughed.
"Your right, but I called about something else too."
"Shoot."
"Have you talked to R-"
"Fletcher?" A woman called out.
I looked up and saw that it was Mrs. Daniels. Promising Jackson I'd call him back later, I ended our call and stood up.
"How are you?" Ms. Daniels asked, as I followed behind her.
"Better." I sighed.
She laughed but it was the complete truth. My life had taken some very sharp turns. Some for the better and some for the worse. All in all I was just happy to be alive.
"Have seat." She told me once we entered her office.
I took a seat in front of the desk and sat my purse in the chair next to me. I put my phone on Do Not Disturb, before sliding it down in my purse.
"Before we get started I want you to know anything you tell me, I cannot share it with anyone else. It is strictly confidential. I'm here to help, not to judge. Oh and since my other appointment canceled, I say you have about a good two hours, so what's going on?" She got her pen and notepad ready.
I cleared my throat. I don't think she was ready for all of this, hell nobody would be prepared for anything that I was about to say, but it was worth a try.
"Well it all started about a year ago..."
