Stuck in a Dream (INCOMPLETE)

Chapter 4

Rose quickly gets out of the sleeping bag and folds it flat, stuffing it into the backpack where it was before. "We need to pack up the tent without having them hear or see us," she hisses quietly, zipping up the bag.

Logan nods and steps out of the tent quickly, disassembling it as she climbs out, scanning their surroundings for intruders. Rose takes out her gun, turning the safety off as she aims it in front of her.

"No!" Logan whisper-yells, shooting her a look. "If you shoot, they'll trace down the sound to our location. And I'm pretty sure that you don't want to do that, considering you ran away from them. Just help take the tent down and we can escape."

With a sigh of exasperation, Rose runs over and helps him take it down, folding it and stuffing it into the backpack before running off into the forest, trying to avoid paths that could potentially cause them to make noise.

"Keep going, they might be spread out. Keep going," Logan keeps saying aloud, encouraging them both as they pushed themselves to their limits as they ran far away.

Rose was running fast; so fast that the trees around her were nothing but colorful blurs. Her hair was whipping behind her, occassionally slapping the back of her neck, but she didn't mind. It felt good to run; after all, she had been in a deep sleep for about 15 to 16 years. But she must have gotten distracted, because before she knew it, her foot trips over a log and she falls forward, shrieking the entire way down. Logan catches her elbow, her face about a foot away from the ground.

"What was that?" a voice yells out, a couple feet away from the right.

"Rose! It has to be her!" Rose hears another voice yell out, and instantly recognizes it as Dr. Cooper's.

"Oh shit," she whispers, scrambling out of Logan's grip as they start running again.

"This way, I think I can hear them!"

At this point, the pair of teenagers didn't care whether or not they were making noise; they just cared about not getting captured by scientists. Behind them, they heard a group of people crash through the trees, shouting and firing guns.

A bullet whizzed past Rose's ear and her eyes widen with fear. This was the real thing; she could potentially die if she got shot. She sped up, catching up to Logan and somehow, luck was on her side because each time a bullet was shot, they always missed their targets.

"We can't keep going like this," Logan shouts, turning his head to check how far behind they were; unfortunately, not very far.

"I know!" Rose replies. "But what else can we do?"

"Split up?" Logan suggests, shrugging awkwardly since he was running.

"Are you crazy?!" Rose exclaims, looking at him. "Everyone knows that when you're getting chased by a bunch of people, you do not split up!"

"Okay, okay! Relax!" Logan replies, holding his hands up. "What do you suggest we do?"

Rose looks around, not really seeing much since they were running. But, she could hear; and right now, she could hear something with a motor driving right beside them. "There's something to our left; a car or motorbike or something. If we could get to it fast enough, and knock them down, we could possibly escape."

He nods and they make a sharp left, looking out for what Rose was talking about.

"There!" Logan shouts, pointing ahead of them.

Rose squints her eyes and sees that he's right; there, about a couple feet away from them, was a huge ATV, with a person sitting on it as they look around for the two teenagers. "Hide!" Rose hisses, ducking behind some bushes, Logan right at her heels.

"Okay, what's the plan?" Logan asks.

"Hey, I already thought of getting the ATV. Now it's your turn!"

"Fine." He looks out at the trees for a minute, and to Rose, it was a minute too long.

"Logan? Could you hurry up? The scientists could catch us any minute. Or that person could move."

Moments after she said that, he snapper his fingers together and said, "Got it! Get out of the bushes. Creep up behind him and tap him on the shoulder. When he turns around, push him off and then lure him away from it. I'll get on and get it started. And then you hop on and then we're good!"

Nodding, she sneaks over behind the tree that was directly behind the scientist on the ATV. She tip-toes forward and taps him on the shoulder, making him turn around and his eyes widen as he realizes who she is. Before he could reach for his walkie-talkie, she shoves him to the ground. She runs around the vehicle and watches him get up before shoving him backwards, running away immediately.

"Come back here!" the man bellows, chasing after her.

Meanwhile, Logan creeps up to the ATV and starts the engine, waiting for Rose. "Rose, come on!"

She jumps out of a cluster of trees and hops on to the front, since she knew how to drive an ATV from her past life; good thing she had such a good memory. Behind them, she could hear yelling and gun shots, laughing at how much distance they were gaining compared to running.

But apparently, it wasn't enough. Because before they got even a couple yards away from them, she hears two gun shots and Logan scream out in pain, tumbling to the ground. Rose whips her head around, seeing her friend lying on the ground, clutching his shoulder and back.

"Logan!" she screams out, turning the ATV around. But it wasn't very good at making sharp turns. Agitated, she jumps off and runs toward her friend, determined to get them back on track.

"No, Rose, just go!" he yells, his teeth clenched. "I'll be fine!"

She falls to her knees, sliding up beside him as she attempts to pull him back up. "No, I'm not going anywhere without you."

His eyes widen with fear, and everything suddenly goes black.

I know, I always post short chapters. But I like to end where I always do because I like to keep you guys hanging xD But yeah, I don't know if I'll be able to make chapters longer if I plan to end them somewhere specific. Oh, and there's a collage of the characters on the side. Ugh, aren't Alexandra Daddario and Hilary Duff flawless?
