Task Seven: The Last Midnight /SF

It's the last midnight,
So, goodbye all.
Coming at you fast, midnight -
Soon you'll see the sky fall.

"Mother? There's a bit of a problem."

A croaked voice comes  from a shrivelled body one would never guess to be Vienna Heraohse.  Separated from all artifice, very little of her is recognizable - other  than her name, of course. "There is no problem, darling."

"The gas you designed is killing them. I'd call that a problem; there's no entertainment in watching everyone slowly die."

"But there is entertainment in letting them decide who does."

Cicero's face twists into an unsettling sort of smile, all teeth and clearly fond of this plan. "Was this your plan all along?"

Vienna smiles. "I always have a plan, dear. Now bring in the cameras."

Within seconds, a camera  is being wheeled into the bleak hospital room. It takes three men to  roll it in, but it is all the best that the Capitol has to offer.  Perhaps it is gone to waste in such a small room and on such a fragile  state of person, but this is nearing the end and no expense can be paid.

"Welcome, viewers, to  the last night these Games have to offer," she says. Even now, in her  state, when the cameras roll out the show is running and she is all  energy and smiles. "These tributes gave all chosen what it is they want  out of us, so now we must decide what we want out of them! Who, dear  Capitol, will you crown as our victor?"

"Both Epona Jericho and Edgar Phasear  from District Two have proven to be as deadly as can be, and their  wishes are nothing but! The boy seeks access to our nuclear weapons for  uses we can only guess, while the girl asks that we take down the fences  around her district so she can be with her pet wolf, never mind the  consequences her neighbours may face. Are you brave enough to give them  what they want?

"A few of our other tributes - Nathaniel Morrison and Wesley Redding  - have a much simpler wish: for them and their loved ones to be left  alone and be happy. Sure, this is a little dull, but have their  performances been enough to win your heart?"

She pauses before  proceeding to the next two names on her list. "One of our precious  tributes have a wish that goes against the laws of our nation. Darling Aya Brandley  wants to put a stop to our Games. Do you love them enough to give up  our rules to support them, or are they simply too controversial to be  allowed to be victorious?

"Finally, we have one  young man whose early reckless and selfish behaviour earned him the  attention of many eyes - mine included - by wishing every male of  reaping age who did not replace him to be dead. I'm of course talking  about District Nine's Aster Wheatleigh!"

All is silent for a  minute as the cameras keep rolling. "Now remember, you have until  midnight to vote for your favourite, so make sure you don't waste any  time!"

And cut.

-------------------------

Congratulations to our  semifinalists! You'll all be listed along with your song later on, but  for now, let's get to this week's requirements!

(Yes, one more survived than usual. I love you all too much)

THE TASK:

- You are writing your  tribute's last moments as they come face to face with death. What these  are is all up to you; I want to give you as much freedom as possible.  The focus of this task, other than your general writing, is how you can  fit with the mood and meaning of the song, so make that clear.

- KILLS: None.  Two of you, however, will be given byes to the final. The other four  will face voting, with only half moving on. Scores no longer matter.

- WORD LIMIT: 1,750 (+250 for seeded players)

- DUE DATE: Friday, July 17th at 10 PM BST.
