From this chapter on, you can ignore the bold spots if you want to. It is either (1) duel info obtained mainly from tcgplayer or (2) my own comments at the beginning or end of the chapter (like this). Those are mainly there for your convienience so if you know what the cards do, feel free to skip it.

I am in a (really) dark room from the looks of it. I feel a stare piercing through me. I'm not alone.

"I said anyone," I say. "So who are you?"

"You are sharp," a deep voice rose up. "I am Apac."

"Sounds foreign," I comment. "Where are my friends?"

"In other parts of this place," he responds.

"Take me to them," I say. "And give me a flashlight or something." The dark was starting to bug me.

"To get that, you must defeat me in a shadow duel," he says.

"And if I refuse?" I question.

"If you refuse, it will count as your loss and you will be stuck in the darkness." It looks as though I have no choice.

I search my person and find a deck, only it's not mine. It's a crap deck (compared to the one I use anyway) that I have never seen before. "Is this a joke?"

"What?" He mocks. "Can't work with that?"

I grumble under my breath. "Depends what your deck consists of."

"You're smart to wonder that when this is a duel for your life."

"Show me your deck."

"And if I refuse?"

"You wanted to duel me, right?  In a Shadow Duel?"

"That is correct."

I stopped myself and thought about everything.  "Wait, Shadow Duel? But that would imply that those exist."

"Correct."

"But that would mean..."

Apac nods.  "Wouldn't that explain the entire thing?  You show up in a dark 'room' and are instantly asked for a shadow duel, which, might I add, don't exist in your world.  In addition, you are placed here with a deck that is foreign to you."

I am speechless.  The situation was exactly as he described and connected all the dots.  Except one.

"So what is this 'dark room'?" I ask.

He laughs, which confuses me a bit.

"What's so funny?" I question.

"This dark room was created by me," he says.  "It is inescapable."

"You know," I said. "The longer I look at this deck, the more I recognize the cards." I grin as I see the makings of what could be a previous deck that I made in my junior year of high school. Not exact, but enough.

"Oh? Is that right?" Apac asks.

"Plus, I've never had a duel with this much on the line," I say. "It's sort of invigorating. You know what I mean?"

"So are you ready to duel?" He asks.

"Hold up," I say, putting my index finger up. "Where's the table or duel disk I'm playing with?" A blue Duel Academy duel disk appears on my arm.  "There we go," I respond. I place the deck in the deck slot.  I raise my arm and activate the duel disk.  He activates his in response.

"Duel!" We both yell.

Zepher: 4000 Apac: 4000

"I'll go first if you don't mind," I say as I draw my cards.  I take one look at them.  These are weak cards but I can work with them.  "I set a card face-down, followed by a set monster.  You're up."
