Chapter 1

I'm in a plane right now that's heading to North Drake. Lots of newborns with me.

When a new vampire has been made or turned, it is a called a newborn. And they are automatically thrown in North Drake. They don't allow vampires lurking in the human countries, imagine the bloody casualties.

But, there are only ten vampires living outside North Drake. They are the good ones, and they are doctors. They vow with their lives to not kill humans. If ever they murdered a poor, helpless human, it is strictly and immediately punishable by death. Their purpose is to save a dying human as much as possible. Dying because of sickness, accident, etc. Wherein my case, because of sickness.

I was diagnosed with brain cancer when I was a kid. And just yesterday, at my 18th birthday, I was supposed to die. I think I spent my whole life lying on my hospital bed, waiting for my death. The human doctors can't find a cure for my sickness all these years.

Doctors went wild when my nerves started to perish, but this vampire doctor decided to lengthen my lifespan. I remember her holding me gently; I didn't know what she was going to do. And then I felt the most agonizing pain I have ever experienced that I never knew exists. But that disappeared in just minutes. And I have never felt so good before. It's like, I'm brand new. From a dying, sick guy, to an instantly healthy and perfect immortal.

I am thankful to that doctor. She told me a few things to get started with this new life. First, head to North Drake; second, NEVER LEAVE. Seems helpful of a guide, isn't it?

The rest of the rules I will learn in Vampire Academy. All newborns are obliged to enter that school at the start of a new semester.

But first I will organize the place I will live in. I have to head to that big place full of condominiums where all the students reside in.

"We will be in North Drake shortly. Please accept the beverage that will be served to you for refreshments." The flight attendant announced through the speakers.

Many stewardesses with trays gave us a small glass with thick, cold blood. The woman who handed me the so-called refreshment winked amorously at me. For a moment I am lost in her red eyes. Then she sashayed out of my sight.

"This isn't human blood, man." The black dude beside me slouched on his seat, disappointed. "Well, bottoms up." He gulped down the blood in just a second, and his eyes turned almost instantly. From red to golden brown.

I drank mine and found out it was a lion's blood, from the smart-looking girl with glasses on my other side. When we touched down, we got out of the plane on a neat line, receiving our luggage back.

A bus stopped in front of us when we got out of the airport. We got in and I found a comfortable seat on the very back. A guy announced that we will get to The Dorms shortly. "We will do it the human ways here in North Drake. Violence is strictly prohibited here despite of our nature. That is the MOST IMPORTANT rule here amongst all rules." He must be our guide. He looks like he's in his mid-forties when he turned. I wonder how old he is now...

He seems so calm and knows his duty well. He took his round to give us a small card. A card key. Mine has 14J indicated on it. "That will be your room number in The Dorms. Get along with the other students; respect the higher year students and the older vampires. Capiche?"

We all answered a low "Yes."

As the bus slowed to a stop, he gently patted the driver's shoulder. They must be good friends. And as he turned back to us, "Now, move your asses."

As I stepped out of the bus lastly, countless of buildings crowded my vision. The newborns with me start to search for their assigned rooms.

As for me, 14J, building 14 and room J, I soon found the building and it turns out my room is on the 3rd floor. I swiped my card on the lock and the door clicked open.

A male interior design. It seems all planned and it looks absolutely nice. A big bedroom, my very own closet, a sparkling bathroom, and... What? No kitchen? Well, I guess since there's no reason to cook.

School starts early in the morning tomorrow. Time for me to arrange my stuffs and take a long sleep.

I can't seem to fall asleep. Maybe because I'm in a new place and all...

It's dark outside as I looked at the window, and the noises on the street started to get louder and louder. When my angriness finally hits its boiling point, I stormed towards the window and opened it up. "Could you all keep it down? I'm trying to sleep here!"

They all fell silent while looking at me. After three seconds, they bursted out laughing. I shut the window down and grunt. "Retards..." I laid back on my bed to find peace and doze off.

But I simply can't.

The funny thing is, it's now 6 o'clock in the morning and I'm not feeling tired or dizzy at all from the lack of sleep.

After bathing and preparing my clothes: white t-shirt, black jeans, and black-striped scarf, I stared at myself on the mirror to comb my dirty blonde hair when I hear a loud thud on the room next door. I quickly got out to check it but it was just a girl... shutting her door and breaking it in the process. Wow. She looks at me with piercing eyes and walk downstairs.

She's simply wearing a black leather jacket and skin-tight jeans. And the way those hips sway as she walks... Shit. A man's perverted mind is kicking in. She has long, red hair, and it looks really beautiful. Just who is this girl? She's like a goddess, but she glared at me like she despises the whole world.

I shrugged it off and eventually finished prepping for school.

Vampire Academy is very huge. It is crowded with lots and lots of bloodsucking students and they all look pretty young. I have a brochure that says only 15 to 25 of ages are allowed in Vampire Academy. Our permanent human age, that is.

I belong to Class I-A, freshmen. I was reading more of the brochure while walking when someone passed by in front of me very quickly. And I mean very fucking quickly. I am absolutely baffled. I stopped to search for him and saw he's already with his pals 500 meters away from me.

Geez. I can't wait to learn everything. Being a newborn is making me a complete idiot.
