"Cali, would you like to come in the front of the class and present your poem?" Mr. Turner asked as everyone in the class turned their heads to the last row, where I was sitting. In this moment I feel like I'm suffocating and my face is burning up. I'm not really good at talking in front of the class and choked up a lot. As I started rising from my seat I heard a faint voice in the back of my head.
"Miss Cali? Would you like to present the song you prepared for us?" my college singing professer asked stopping the memory from replaying in my head. I was brought back to reality where the reality I live in is where I go to the school of my dreams, University of Navada. I am also living with my best friend, Eleanor, in a condo in New York. I'm pretty much living the life I dreamed of having as a kid except that I am still a nobody just like I was in highschool. But in highschool I actually looked like a nerd. I had braces, wore glasses, and had acne all over my face. Present time I am look a lot different but still pretty much unknown to every body.
I confidently walked to the front of the room where I had everyone's eyes looking at me from one end of the room to the other.
"You can begin whenever you would like." he said. I gave the piano player a copy of the notes for the music and walked to the microphone. My palms were sweating and I studdered as I spoke.
"Hello, today I will be singing a song called 'Cry Me a River' by Michael Bublé." When the man started to press his hands on the piano keys I knew that was my cue to start singing.
Now you say you're lonely
You cried the whole night through
Well you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over youI continued to sing my heart out just like I had the days before. The only difference was that today I was performing for an exam that counts as a grade which makes this even more nerve racking. As I finished up the song my professor looked at me with a wide smile on his face along with all the people in the room who gave me a standing ovation as they clapped and whistled and roared with cheers. I couldn't help but blush. I've never had people give me this sort of reaction before.
I started walking back to my seat when I feel a tight grip around my wrist. I turn around and see a really good-looking guy staring at me. He opened his mouth to say something but I pulled away knowing that if it went on any longer I would've made a big fool out of myself. For the rest of the class the same guy stared at me with a smirk on his face. I didn't know whether to smile or look away so I just kept a straight face on. He wasn't sitting too far from me so when class was dismissed it wasn't too obvious he was walking slowly waiting for me to walk beside him although I noticed. He stared at me but I looked away looking straight ahead when he started walking beside me.
"You know you were pretty good up there."
"Thanks." I say quiet pathetically.
"How come I've never met you before?" he asks still walking slowly beside me.
"I dunno. I'm not a person people like talking too."
"In there it seemed like everyone loved you."
"Well, that's an observation and a fact is that I'm a weird and quirky person."
"Nah. You seem really chill. Plus your hot and kinda funny."
"Okay... not true. And I don't have good friendship qualities. I am still wondering why you are talking to me. You don't even know my name." I say giggling.
"Okay. Let's see. Put your number in my phone, save yourself as a contact and then I will know your name." he said handing me his phone. I grab his phone, type my phone number, save myself as a contact and walk away not even bothering to look back. Okay, that was weird.
I took a taxi back to my condo and walked in to Eleanor talking on the phone. She was saying something like come over tonight and she'll love you. I looked at her with a puzzled look. She put up one finger that I assumed to mean I was supposed to hold on a minute. She walked into another room and it wasn't after almost ten minutes before she walked out.
"So, what was that about?" I asked her.
"Well, you know that guy I've been dating? I nodded only half knowing what she was talking about.
"He is coming over Friday night for dinner and so you aren't third wheeling or anything maybe you want to invite someone over too, yeh? She looked at me hopefully. When she said that my mind went straight to the boy I met today. I could invite him over but maybe that is too soon I mean we've only had one conversation and- wait, I don't have his number. Great! I don't even know if he will text me. Friday is gonna suck and I am going to be third wheeling with my best friend and her boyfriend. That won't be awkward at all.
