The Twenty Second Revision of The Lineages and Histories of the Great Houses of the Goryo Kingdoms,With Descriptions of Many Lords and Ladies and Their Children and their Lands
The oldest sources of the long history of noble of the Peninsula, believed to be started at the 1st Century, where men finally found and learned word, and knowing how to write.
Prior to the 1st Century, all sort of knowledge and information could only passed down orally. Resulting in the lack of any valid facts and information prior to the 1st century, where myth and legend beyond comprehension of logic oft dominate, such as the case of many mythical ancient Kingdom of 12 petty regional king would reign and many a heroes with notable deeds are said to roam the land and lived amongst the people. While it is an interesting subject to learn,i would not dwell on the matter too deep on this book.
Scholars often mention and agreed that the 1st Century starts when Goryoan could figure out letter and starting to write and record over anything, from the trivial to the essential, from the most miniscule to the most mysterious, higher learning, where understanding of human mind couldn't properly grasp...yet.
Many a scholar attributed these discovery of letter, word and writing to wandering scribe and learned men from Orient Vastland that introduced a simplified version of Vastlander's characterization of word, now commonly known as Hangul among the Goryoan and would be later perfected and simplified even more by King Sejong the Great many a century later.
What would become the caste of noble however, start with a notion called Mandate of Heaven.
similar to what Vastlander use to ascertain and justify their sovereignty over other, lesser caste of men not born from perceived 'noble' bloodline.
This political and religious doctrine is used since antiquity to justify the rule of the King or Emperor of the Vastland.
According to this belief, heaven —which embodies the natural order and will of the universe—bestows the mandate on a just ruler of Vastland, the "Son of Heaven" of the "Celestial Empire".
If a ruler was overthrown, this was interpreted as an indication that the ruler was unworthy, and had lost the mandate.
It was also a common belief among peasants that natural disasters such as famine and flood were signs of heaven's displeasure with the ruler, so there would often be revolts following major natural disasters as citizens saw these as signs that the Mandate of Heaven had been withdrawn.
These doctrine and 'the right to rule' spread to nearby nation, people outside the Vastland,to Goryo,Siam,Ryukyu,Aynu,Nuzhen,Nanyue, the Frozen Wasteland, the Mongyol nomads, the Four Sun Islands and other ethnic group nearby the Orient Vastland border it spread.
Sun Islanders,Nawakioan and Aynu called it Clan. Siamese,Vastlander and other nearby tribe bordering the Vastland called it Dynasty.
but Goryoan called these people born from lineages of nobility, landed or not, with: member of the House, believed to derive from the word : head of House hold.
Man or woman could only receive a family name or ennobled by Landed Lord or Lady, while ennobled by a King is regarded as highest honor for someone of the lower class could receive.
