I stood on the edge of the highest building in the city. The instructor whose name was Marco told me that this would be a dangerous task for a young seven year old girl like me. I told him that I didn't care and was to conquer my greatest fear. The strong wind smacked my face and a bolt of fear rushed through my veins. The green harness that Marco put on me hugged my waist tightly but not tight enough to prevent the blood flow. Down below I could see the cars racing down the busy streets of New York, the people who look like little ants walking quickly to get to their destination, and the bright lights shining through the windows contrasting with the mysterious darkness of the night. I looked up and I could see the shiny silverly lights of the sky twinkling in the sky. Marco attached all the complicated cords to my harness and walked over to the control panel.
"Don't you worry Jamie. You have nothing to be afraid of," Marco said to me with his humorous tone that he has been using the whole night.
As he lifted me up into the air with the control panel, it felt as if I were flying. I could hear the stopper moving and engine powering up. The next thing I knew, I was rocketing through the sky. I felt as if I were a bullet rushing against the wind. At that moment I didn't care about anything and nothing even mattered.
When I arrived at the other side of the building I could see my parents, my cousin Sarah, and my sister Savannah waving and cheering. The cord opened up and dropped me into a pool of plush blocks of blue and green. Sarah pulled me out and hugged me tightly.
She said to me as she hugged me, "I'm so proud of you!"
I know now that life is too short to not take risks. If I never face my fears, I will never conquer them. New fears bubble up inside me all the time, but that never stops me from doing what I love.
