Jayne's POV
I awoke under a leg.
Why does my bed feel like this and where is my pillow?
"Mike?" My dry throat tried to push my voice out but it came as nothing more than a raspy whisper.
"Mike?" A little louder and I slap at the leg that's carelessly strewn across my midsection. When I feel its strange lack if hair, I open an eye.
"Ow, it's not Mike." I sit up slowly and look around, remembering the events of last night. I see the leg belongs to my sister and as I sit up, there is a dainty finger in my face that belongs to Belle. She lies outstretched on the couch and I notice Anne, across the room, curled in a ball.
Valerie an I shift together, collecting ourselves and squinting at the morning. The pounding in my head won't cease and I look over at my sister who's head rests between her knees. It's evident by all the bottles strewn across the floor that we have hangovers, but I find it in me to push myself off the ground.
With each step I take, my head throbs a little faster, and with a little more force. I cringe at the lights in the kitchen - which are stronger than the natural lighting of the family room - and turn them back off. I pace myself as I climb the stairs and search my room for my sunglasses. When I find them, I slip them on, feeling some relief, and look over at Mike. He is sleeping soundly and I smile, although even that seems to hurt me.
When I find the other pairs of glasses for my three friends downstairs, I go back down and re-enter the room. I find that everyone is awake. Valerie hasn't changed positions since I left, Anne is now lying face down on the floor, and Belle has a hand on her forehead, seemingly trying to shield her head from the hangover. I pass out the glasses and hear mutters of gratitude before I shuffle along into the kitchen.
I open the coffee pot and start making some coffee for myself. A few minutes later, the other three trudge into the room and pick out their drinks of choice. We all sit along the table, drinking what we usually do. It really says a lot about us.
Coffee for me. I'm sensible, a busy body, and kind of typical. Belle drinks tea. She's calm, sensible once again, and more relaxed. Valerie sips at a tall Monster energy drink. She's irrational, tired, and a little reckless. Finally, Anne is drinking a Red Bull. Still irrational, spontaneous, and ready to take on the day (Sort of).
One by one the guys file down the stairs, but they're all together.
"Awww, isn't this cute. Our girlfriends have wicked hangovers." Jaime says as he enters the kitchen and ruffles Belle's already matted hair. She lets out a low growl and scowls at Jaime from behind her glasses but lets him take a seat next to her anyways.
"Hey, babe." Vic enters the room and plants a kiss on Valerie's cheek. She smiles an exhausted yet happy smile at him as he pours a bowl of cereal. When she tugs at his arm, he looks down at her expectantly and she holds up two fingers. He nods getting tthe point, and I can't help but consider that to be my relationship goal.
"Morning." Tony stretches his arms over his head and yawns. He looks in the fridge for orange juice and ends up taking the whole jug of it. He drinks from the container, next to Anne, and they share Red Bull and orange juice for breakfast. Last but not least, I see him.
The love of my life descends the stairs, and shoots me a knowing look. He pulls out a bottle of aspirin from seemingly nowhere and places it on the table. One by one, we reach for it and take whatever we need. Mike scoops me up from my seat and then sits down and places me on his lap.
While everyone is chatting lightly and recovering, their shades come off but I never thought to take mine off. Mike has one arm wound tight around my waist and leans back to get a better look at me. Ignoring everyone in the room, he gently removes the sunglasses and places them on the counter beside him. Leaning in close, he whispers to me before placing a kiss on my cheek.
