As I relived the day that Louis asked me to move to Seoul for work in my head while going down the stairs of my dad's home, I couldn't help but smile. I saw his face peeking from the bottom of the staircase, shouting something about not dragging my damn luggage on his brand new floors.
"Theresa Lillian Brown, I swear to God if you scratch these floors I'm selling everything and moving over to Seoul to be your neighbor and make your life miserable."
He said that while giggling, which brought a warm smile to my face. Even when he tries to scold me, he always does it with laughter and humor. He learned early on that I respond much better to calm interactions than tantrums and yelling like Mom does. That's why I can't think of one single fight me and Dad had. He gets me.
"Robert Theodore Brown, I'd be the happiest girl if I could bring you with me over there."
I reach the bottom of the stairs and come face to face with him as I say that. I stare at him for a couple seconds and pout. Just looking at him, his cute cheeks, his sparse gray hair, his tired but loving eyes, already makes me homesick. I take in all that I can, as I won't be seeing him for a couple weeks at least. I smile and take his hand, squeezing it hard, letting him know without having to say a word how much I'll miss him.
"Are they coming with you to drop me off?"
I ask him, taking a peek in the kitchen, seeing Anna and Jennie sitting at the kitchen counter. They didn't hear me, still eating their breakfast, getting ready to go to school.
"Hey nerds, you coming? I'll call in saying I'm Mom letting your school know you'll be late."
Both of them snap their heads towards me in a flash, big bright smiles and sparkling eyes. Dad shoves me lightly with his shoulder, not sure whether he should sigh or laugh. Jennie runs in my arms and squishes my face with her clumsy hands, ending up poking me right in the eye with her finger. I can feel Anna rolling her eyes all the way to South Korea, pushing Jennie out of the way to grab both of my hands.
"You know, maybe you could leave one of your old IDs here..." She bats her eyelashes at me.
"Don't even try, devil spawn. You'll go out and get drunk once you're old enough.
Jen waited her time, and so will you. Isn't that right Jenniboo?""Yeah, yeah, sure, of course!"
She looks away from me, but finds Dad's hard stare on her instead.
"Dad, come on. You know me! I'm your favorite daughter! I'm the most mature and responsible of us 3. I would never disobey the L-A-W!" She spells out, very dramatically.
Dad lets out a loud laugh, knowing this is a battle that he may never win. We all chuckle a little, and the girls put their shoes on and help me out with my bags. Dad reaches the trunk of the car and opens the door, shuffling some of his work gear around to make room for all my luggage. Once we played a quick game of Tetris with all my shit, we both look at each other and reach out for a high five.
"Next stop, Pearson International!"

"I expect a call as soon as you land, young lady. And don't even try pulling that "My phone died" excuse. That thing is glued to your hand 24/7 and I know for a fact you would never let it die on you. So please just make your old man happy and call me."
