My blue matted fur lays balled up in his hands as he wakes from yet another nightmare. I gently stroke his hair and hum a gentle song coaxing him back to sleep. Lucas had just turned six when he started needing me, he called me blue bear and I was his for the taking. His mother couldn't see me , nor could his sister but I was always there watching over him. As Lucas and I got older he started going out more, playing sports and hanging out with girls. I was now a figment of his imagination. He didn't even bring me up anymore, but I still held him every night like a mother to their child. Tonight he holds me, he's crying, he's had another nightmare, but he never tells me what they are about. My fur is now a Greyish blue and my eyes a dull brown, I'm too old for Lucas and he's too old for me. As we lay, and he cries a river he tells me sometimes he can't see me. He says I've started to fade. I guess that's what happens when a kid gets older but I never thought it would come. Tomorrow is his 16th birthday, I hold him tight and wish him well. We finally bid our goodbyes, I want to fight but I know he has to grow up now. And I will always watch over him, when he's old and his mind is fading he will see me again and we will rest together.
