Car Crash Perks - Kim Seungmin

I lifted my hand up to my forehead to block the sunshine that was shining through my car's windshield from my eyes. Summer has just ended, and I wondered if the weather will be any better the next day. I had just graduated from high school, and the mere thought of starting college soon made my skin crawl. "It isn't easy," is what they all said, so I should be preparing myself mentally and physically. Unfortunately, procrastination is a bitch, and I can't seem to do something efficiently ever.

I parked my car close to the entrance of the store, hopping out and walking in the warm weather. My friends and I decided to hang out at my best friend Yuna's house, to celebrate our graduation. I know it's late, but it feels like it's never too late to celebrate an event. Aside from birthdays, I mean.

Walking in the store, I was immediately hit by the cold air conditioning. I pulled out my phone and searched for my past text messages with Yuna, her never ending requests of all the sugary and savory snacks there are, made my eyes widen in shock. How much was I going to pay for just some unhealthy, possibly poisoning food?

Making my way to the snack aisle, I noticed a cute guy in a blue denim jacket searching in the shelves for something. Trying to ignore (and unfortunately avoid) him, I grabbed all of the potato chip bags that I could see and turned to the other side of the aisle, that housed sugary snacks. Grabbing all the food Yuna asked for, I got my hands on some drinks then quickly paid and went out the store.

I wasn't about to talk to the guy, or even glance at him again. Not matter how attractive I found him to be. If I was starting college soon, then the boys drama is the first thing I need to forget.

Climbing into my white, Honda car, I placed my groceries in the back seat and started the engine. Turning on the air conditioning, I pulled out and drove to the main road.

------------------------------

I have no idea how it happened, but it did.

Despite me being a particularly terrible driver, I have never crashed my car before. However, I don't think that this one should count as my first. Because I was a hundred percent sure that it was this person's fault that I crashed into them. So, climbing out of my car, I was unpleasantly (or should I say pleasantly?) surprised when I saw the same  guy from the convenience store stepping out of the other car.

His hair shining in the rays of the sun, eyes squinted and a frown on his face, he stared at me for a few seconds before speaking.

"Hey... I-uh apologize. But I promise that not much harm was made to your car. Take a look," he said, in a very casual and polite manner.

I looked into his eyes as if I resented him. And who knows, maybe I did. Because this cute guy  shows up in my life, and right as I avoid him triumphantly, he shows up in another situation. Except, this situation is inevitable. I can't avoid him once more. It was as if the universe was setting me up with him.

I sighed exasperatedly, and walked past him to the boot of my car, where I saw his a few feet apart from mine. The dent wasn't too deep, and was definitely repairable. As long as it won't cost too much, then it should be fine. The only problem is, I had been saving up for college all through out high school, and I wasn't very content with using any of the savings.

"I can pay half the price," he exclaimed all of a sudden, as if he was reading my mind. "I have to, right? This was clearly my fault."

"Really?" I said, appalled by his words.

"Yeah, why not? Are you against it?" He said, almost mockingly as if he was about to change his mind.

"No, no! Of course, you should pay. You bumped into my car after all," I said rather quickly, afraid he might actually refuse to pay.
