The Day After My First Encounter, London, 1872

It was as the old man had said. Try as I may to avoid it, precisely at seven I found I had appeared in a peculiar cellar. The room was dimly lit by a few oil lanterns left in the best places to be utterly useless as they provided more shadows than light. What I could make from the walls around me in that scarce light was they were made of brick and smelled of must. The room about me disappeared into blackness that made it appear to go on forever. Before me stood a solid wood door with a single sliver of light escaping from beneath. I lifted the heavy metal handle allowing myself entry beyond.

The way was narrow and lined with barrels but lit with enough candles and lanterns to be able to see down the corridor. Beyond that I found there to be a room much reminiscent of an old tavern. Three strangely costumed men sat by the hearth that hugged the corner. All three sat on uncomfortable looking wooden stools. All but one had found drink in hand.

"He seems to have arrived Merewin." The voice came from a robust man on my left.

"Uncanny Merewin!" One of the men at the hearth exclaimed "You've outdone yourself! His resemblance to Acharis is remarkable."

"That is so, but his timeliness is lacking." Merewin huffed.

"I arrived as you wanted at 7. I really hadn't a choice in it."

"Then you should have been awkwardly standing there 10 minutes ago." Merewin continued to mutter on about my tardiness in an inaudible manor.

"Well, no,..." I began not really knowing any excuse to claim in the matter such as this.

"Just another thing I must train you on." Merewin continued as though he were angered with me.

"What am I to train for? I haven't even been informed of where I am or who you are?"

The old man sighed. "There really is no time for all that just yet."
