Prologue
Alayna could feel her blood pounding in her ears, as she ran with all her might, meticulously ducking a tree branch in time. She turned sharply around the corner, almost falling, in hopes of loosing her pursuer. But it was no use, the man was following her on her heels. Andrew was a few feet in front of her as he tugged at Alayna hand, urging her to run faster.
She took in a rugged breath, unable to follow his pace. She didn't want this to be the end, not like this. Alayna had such a long life in front of her, and she didn't want it to put such an abrupt end to it. Alayna didn't even have the time to ponder the thought when Andrew in one swift motion swept her up, bridal style. He hugged her close to her chest, as he increased his speed, running much faster than before. "Don't even think about it." he whispered, his hot breath on Alayna's neck. He placed a small kiss on her forehead, as he fervently increased his speed.
A small shiver ran up Alayna's spine, and she was belwildered at how Andrew could affect her even at a time like this. She could feel Andrew's ripped muscles move against her, as he ran rigorously. There was no way that the pursurer could catch up to Andrew's speed. After all, he was the Heir of Belsile, the strongest and greatest warrior of Belsile. Alayna looked up lovingly at Andrew's beautiful face.
The sunlight that filtered in through the trees of the forest, softly enhanced his beautiful features...his high cheekbones, well defined jaw, and oh those full pink lips.ohh...those kissable lips. His sea green eyes twinkled and stood as a contrast to his bronze colored skin. He looked back at Alayna, his face red from sweating. look undoubtedly beautiful. Alayna looked back their pursuer, his eyes fury and hatred.
The pursuer pulled out his sword, and cast it straight at Alayna. The sword narrowly missed her head by a fraction of an inch, and threw Andrew off balance as he tripped on a sharp rock. Andrew tightened his grip on Alayna, pulling her body close to him. He angled his shoulder slightly to the right, in such a way to bear the brunt of the fall.
Alayna closed her eyes tightly bracing herself for the fall, but it never came. Instead she heard a sickening crack as Andrew's shoulder made head on contact with the stump of a tree. Andrew was hunched over in pain, as blood started dripping from his shoulders, falling drop by drop on the ground. Alayna quickly writhed under Andrew's still deathly grip.
Andrew quickly straightened himself, holding his now blood drenched shoulder with the other arm, as he took a step towards Alayna. He yanked her arm, effectively pulling her back.
"Stay back. " he repeated his voice so deadly that Alayna immediately obeyed.
Andrew shielded Alayna's body with his own, as he prepared to fight, his damaged arm laying to his side.
The pursuer threw back his head, wickedly and his curly brown hair flew wildly against the flowing wind. "I'm going to finish what should've been done 18 years ago." He yelled in ecstasy.
Andrew further pushed Alayna back, making sure that she was as far away from danger as possible. He threw one loving glance at her before he formed a fist with his free hand directed toward the pursuers' abdomen.
The pursuer easily blocked this, and managed to land a kick on Andrew's side. Andrew brushed it off, and managed to land a few kicks, three in his chest, and one on the knee. The man fell down to the ground howling in pain, and suddenly it all happened so fast. The man tugged at Andrew's broken arm, pulled of his dagger from his boot, and aimed it straight at Andrews heart.
It was as though Alayna was watching in slow motion. "Nooooooooo...." she ran towards the man. Think fast, think fast. Alayna and Andrew's love story flashed through Alaynas mind. Andrew's first hatred toward towards Alayna, the rose that he secretly gave to her avoiding the rivalries of the Belshores and the Havensmeades, their first kiss, his dire willingness to always protect her. And now, Alayna wanted to protect him, protect him from the deep danger that lay ahead.
Did she really love him? Unconditionally yes. So, Alayna ran towards the man, and placed herself between Andrew and him. The dagger that was initially directed at Andrew bore into Alayna's heart. Andrew's sorrowful howl filled her ears, and Alayna smiled, embracing all the pain that radiated through her body with a smile.
Because sacrifice was the truest form of love.
Sooo...How do you like it???
