Peach blossom petals fluttered through the cooling air, dancing before your eyes in pairs that drifted down to your feet in beautiful contrast to the broken concrete of the sidewalk below. You almost stopped to admire the view, but a loud crashing sound drove your attention from natures tableau onto the ever growing chaos of the roadway ahead.
"Someone call an ambulance!"
"Is he breathing?"
"Someone help him!"
The voices of bystanders rang out over the cluttering of assorted noises ahead, causing your spine to tingle with a familiar avoidance complex. This has nothing to do with me, you thought in hopes that someone more socially competent would handle the scene as you sharply turned down an alleyway to reach your destination by way of a detour. The feeling of being watched cause you to tighten your grip on the straps of your backpack and increase your pace down the alleyway, trying to remember which turn you were supposed to take and writing off this feeling as guilt induced paranoia. You should have at least checked on that accident ahead, right? It's not like I was a witness or anything, I didn't do anything wrong by not getting involved.
After a short walk the alleyway opened up on the far side, and at it's mouth was another street busied with morning commuters traveling to endless destinations across the city. Your anxiety lessened a bit as the bustle of the city engulfed you once more and you melted into the comfort of the crowd as you continued on your way with a sense of polite urgency. Can't be late for another meeting, you internally chastised yourself as you checked your phone and picked up the pace of your stroll in the direction of your upcoming consultation.
Maybe it was a bad idea to try to start your own company? Yet, for some reason, they had enough faith in you and enough hate for their previous corporate structure that they followed you on your whims to start a new life. You couldn't let them down. Though you were completing all of your jobs well and earning good reviews, operating costs for this venture were slowly sinking you.
