My mom would always tell us stories about how the world was before the war. How water would flow in the now empty banks. And how she met my dad while on a date with another guy. My father would always tell her gently to stop and how it's against the rules to speak about the past. Where I live almost everything is against the rules. Staying out after midnight is against the rule. Keeping the electricity on after dark is against the rules. Kids are not aloud to play with the guards it's against the rules.

When I was a kid my sister and I would always pretend to be guards and we would follow a safe distance around to see what they do. All they did was walk around the city holding a gun. I never knew why, but my dad always told me the city isn't safe. That there are people with special genetics called Radars. That when I grow up I need to protect the city and become a guard. My mom on the other hand told me I could become what ever I wanted. See there are a lot fewer jobs now that the war is over. At least that's what my mom says. She would always say, "Adam you would love it there would be fairs and amusement parks." Of course I didn't know what she was talking about but I believed her I believed everything she said to me.

My sister Edith was different then me. When she was a kid she would never follow the rules. Now that we are older she does everything my father says. She would get on to me if I had my flash light on after dark to read my book that my mom gave me. I always teased her about how she would grow up and be a leader. Something she doesn't want to become. But she sure does act like one.

Leaders are people who control are city. Who make the rules. Keep us in line like my father says. My father always wanted to become a leader. My mother said he never passed the test when he was my age. So know he is bitter about me growing up to become something special. My sister always wanted to become a scientest. She said she would cure the Radars so that gaurds wont hunt them down.

I didn't know what she meant by hunt them down at that time. But know I do. Everyday my parents wake us up to go to school. It's a small old down building that use to be a movie theater what ever that is. But before we go. I have to get dress, brush my teeth and hair. My mom makes breakfast. Oatmeal and canned milk. And we have to take our vitaman pill. My dad says it because the leaders want us to be strong and fit so that I can become a guard one day. But I really didnt care I just took it.

But today was the day that changed my life.

Sorry it is short. I hope you like it if you want me to contuine then go ahead and tell me thanks guys bye for now:)
