a/n   happy reading!

The Texas heat was blistering hot. The sun showed no mercy, and shone above us with all its might and power. I stood sweating underneath it's gaze, my skin flushing red. I ran a sweaty hand through my thick hair, letting out a stained sigh. I took in the sight of the school in front of me, dread gnawing at my belly. After living for thirteen years in South Dakota, Mom and Dad decided to move back to Texas, where i was originally born and where i had been raised for little over 3 years. To be honest, i didn't really get why they wanted to move. Their job back in Dakota paid well. Hell, it paid better than most jobs. But for some unknown reason, they wanted to move. The reason they told me was that there were better colleges for me to attend here, and wanted me to atlas spend my junior and senior year here in Texas.

I knew that wasn't the real reason why they wanted to move to great Texas. They wanted to move here because of Dad's secret family business that was brought down to him from his father, who passed away a month ago. I didn't know what it was exactly, but i knew it was an association called WEM. I didn't really care to investigate what it stood for, or what it required you to do, because i was actually pretty preoccupied with the fact that we were moving. A start of a new chapter, for me and my social life. The only thing i dreaded was the first week of school. The year was two months into the first semester, which meant me being new was going to be breaking news to everyone.

I took a deep breath of the hot air and marched inside, already running ten minutes late. i took a look at the watch on my left arm. 7:12. twelve minutes late to be exact. i shook my head in frustration, just what i needed. when entering the school, i pulled out the school map from my backpack, along with my schedule. on top of the paper it had the schools name, Blue Creek High school, written in bold letters. Bellow it was a table, in where for every hour i had one class. the other paper had a maze of lines and shapes, the map of this school. I shook my head in disapproval. Pre-calculus first period.

And so without turning my head to any of the teachers in the hallways, i made my way through the maze of a school and found my designated class five minutes later. Now i stood by the door, my hand hovering over the handle. I could hear the teacher talk from here. Her voice was shrill and annoying. Ugh, first lesson was going to be long. rolling my eyes, i entered the room, a hush suddenly fell on to the class. The teacher turned around to face me, face stern, ready to shout at whomever had rudely interrupted her class. When she saw me standing there, looking like a clueless puppy, she smiled crookedly at me.

"Ah, You must be the new kid we were expecting." She said with annoying enthusiasm, pulling me to the front of the class.

Everyone just stared at me with judging eyes, the weight of their stares pushing all the air out of my lungs.

"introduce yourself, boy."

I cleared my throat, pulling the hem of my shirt nervously.

"Uh, Hi, My name is Noah. Im sixteen, i like to play basketball. I uh also do some art—painting." i nervously stumbled, feeling holes shoot through where every eye looked.

"alright, nice to meet you, Noah, I'm Mrs. Kennedy. Go take a seat next to Jacob, at the back." the teacher said, shooing me off, and pointing to a pale, firm jawed, dirty blonde haired dude in the very back of the class room.

He cocked an eyebrow at me as i sat down, a smirk on his lips, the three boys sitting in front of him turning around to watch.

"Where you from, surfer boy?" Jacob asked and it wasn't like i had an option to answer it or not not.

"I'm from here." i said, taking out a pen from the back zipper of my bag.

"i went to school for the first two months in Dakota, before moving here, thats why I'm two months late." I explained trying to get a conversation going.

Jacob just shrugged. "Sucks for you then."

I laughed nervously, the three guys sitting in front of us casting curious glances over their shoulders. "yah i guess.."

"I don't know why you even decided to join our school. its sucks magnificently." One of the guys from in front of us said, his auburn red curls slightly bouncing as he turned around.

"Bro i can't imagine. Are the teachers stoners? because i kind of need some of that if I'm going to be able to go through lessons as boring as these."

the guys let out a laugh.

"Not as boring as your mom" jacob snickered.

"Ooo, I'm stoked man, my heart broke--my insides? shattered. that truth hurts." i said dripping with sarcasm.

Mason and the guys in front broke out in laughter

Jacob did too, slapping my back in a friendly manner. "Yo dude, i don't say this often, but i think i like you."

well that was fast.
