I still remember it like it was yesterday. The day we met
It was just a normal fall day. I was wearing an oversized grey sweater and skinny jeans, complete with my favorite shoes. The shoes had holes where my big toe went and the fabric on the sides was wearing a bit thin, but I loved them. The sweater was cozy and smelled like cedar from being in my big cedar chest. I had a handful of the best candy corn ever in my pocket and a piece of peanut brittle in my hand. In my other hand I was balancing my math book, my science book, my social studies book, my Latin book, all my folders, my art notebook, my writing binder, my science notebook, and my books. I had already put my clarinet and music book in the instrument storage room, so I didn't have to worry about it. My purple hair was covering my right eye as I looked at my book. I was hooked. I was in the process of re-reading the Percy Jackson series for the fifth time. Then it happened.
I suddenly hit something solid and all my things fell to the ground with a crash. My hand flew up to my mouth as I stifled a scream. My papers were all over and class was starting. the hallways were empty except for me and a few other people. I looked up and I realized that there was a girl kneeling in front of me, picking up my stuff. My eyes widened and I dropped to the floor. I hurridly started to pick up my stuff.
"Sorry. I was reading. I tend to get little cought up in my books." I said. I really was sorry.
"What a coincidence. I was reading too. Well, researching." She said. Her voice was soft and sweet. If honey made a sound, that's what her voice would sound like. I remember wanting nothing more than to ask her what she was researching, but that would be rude. Since when have I ever been polite?
"What were you researching?"
"Different art methods." She almost looked embarrased as he said it.
"That's cool. Right now I'm researching-"
"Astronomy." She cut me off and held up my science notebook. It was really more of a research journal.
I laughed. "Yeah. I'm almost always researching astronomy, especially Pluto."
At that moment we both reached for my science book and our hands touched. They only touched for a few seconds, but in those few seconds the world seemed to stop. I knew she felt it too as our eyes met. Her striking green eyes seemed to pierce through me as she looked into my blue ones.
She held my gaze as she said "See you around, Pluto."
She set my stuff on the ground and walked off carrying her stuff. "See you around." I whispered.
And with that I put my everything I didn't need in my locker and walked to class, almost twenty minutes late.
