~ DONNIE'S POV ~

"Donatello!" I heard sensei's voice call out as Leo left the study.

I bowed my head, clipping my bō staff onto my shell. I followed my father into the study.

He sighed. "Why have you been so distracted, my son?"

I looked up to him with pleading eyes. "Um, sensei, I uh...."

He knelt, closing his eyes. I knelt in front of him.

"Donatello, you have an amazing mind. You can figure out equations in seconds, and solve riddles in minutes. You conjure remedies for incurable diseases in less than an hour. You truly are a genius. So why can you not look me in the eyes and tell me the truth?"

I sighed, tracing small circles on the floor, looking down. "It's uh, kind of... embarrassing..."

Sensei stroked his goatee. "Please, my son... continue."

"Well, I kinda - saved this girl from her ex. Her name is Y/N. She's 15."

"...And?"

I sighed, forcing myself to meet his eyes.

"I can't stop thinking about her, sensei. I visited her just today, actually."

Sensei sighed, glancing at the tree.

"Tell Raphael it's his turn next on your way out. I'm done chewing you out for today."

I felt my muscles loosen, even though I didn't realise I had them tensed. I exhaled in relief. I didn't know why I had been so nervous.

I got to my feet and was abut to exit when I heard sensei's voice again.

"Donatello," he said.

His voice brought me to a stop, but I didn't turn around.

"Be careful. I... I'm not ready to trust newcomers just yet. I took a big risk letting April and Casey in... I don't want to lose you, or any of your brothers, again."

I glanced back at him, nodding. But he had returned to meditation.

I walked out of the study/dojo, sighing as I did so. At least I got his consent. Well, sort of.

"Raph," I said, and my hothead of a brother looked up.

"You're up."

He twirled the sai he always carried and slotted them into their sheaths.

Mikey glanced up from his comic, obviously nervous.

I walked up to him.

"Hey," I smiled.

"It'll be okay, Michael. Don't worry about it."

"Really?" My younger brother smiled, his eyes brightening.

I nodded, smiling back at him.

"Thanks, D," he grinned.

I walked off towards the lab, a smile crawling across my face as I once again thought about Y/N.
