Agents chased her onto the moving subway train. Angela held the book tightly to her body and inched her way through the rush hour crowd. At the next station she leaped off the train and ran for the nearest exit. She had to get the book to Dr. Bedgetter or the world would end.

At 42nd St and 5th Avenue she sped across the traffic strewn street ahead of the other pedestrians and leaped the steps of the New York Public Library.

“No running in the library,” the security guard said and stopped her as she came through the door.

“This is a matter of our planet’s life and death,” she screamed at him and pushed through the security check alerting the alarms and sending the security guards pounding after her.

“You won’t get me. This book is only for Dr. Bedgetter and he must get it by sunset or the entire world will explode!” Angela raced up the marble staircase hoping the slippery steps would slow them.

“Dr. Bedgetter, Dr. Bedgetter, I have it,” Angela barely had enough breath on the third floor when she got near his door.

A white coated figure waited for her as she collapsed in front of him still holding the book. “Give it to me quickly. They will be here soon. We have only minutes to spare.” The doctor grabbed the book and pushed a button. An elevator hidden in the wall opened up and the doctor and Angela went to the fifth floor, which was the roof.

“We’ve got to be on time. They’ll be here any second.” Dr. Bedgetter said looking up at the sky.

“Who, will be here, Dr.?” Angela only knew how important this book was. Not why it was needed.

“Oh, my dear, I’ve made a dreadful mistake. Aliens came a few years ago and they had three demands. If we met all of them they would leave us alone. If not we would be destroyed. “

“Dr. Bedgetter, who else knows this?”

“Only you and the president. But he couldn’t tell anyone either. That’s why all the police and agents were following you.”

“I ran as fast as I could back here. Now I’d like to know these demands.”

“Number one: Be at the roof of the New York Public Library on July 21, 2007 at the moment the sun sets.”

Number two: Tell only your president and one other person.

Number three: Bring the requested book.”

A spaceship looking like a helicopter landed on the roof in front of them and Angela and Dr. Bedgetter ran to meet it.

Two aliens looking like humans with no faces jumped out with lazer guns pointed at them. “You have the book?”

“Yes, here it is.” Angela handed over the book to the aliens. “Are we safe now?”

The captain grabbed the book to his chest and said: “You have brought us the book. We will spare your Earth.” The spaceship/helicopter slipped away and Angela and Dr. Bedgetter let out their breaths.

On the spaceship the captain placed the book in its place. He had been waiting for this for a year. Damned addiction, he thought. The title read: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
