they wake up at around noon, the night before spent with laughter and jokes and games until well past midnight. a groan came from the bed as a boy rose from his sleep and maybe for the first time for a eight year old chenle, he was tired of sleeping. he looked at the boy next to him, still snoring softly.
"ji, it's time to wake up." he whispered loudly as he shook the younger boy awake. "ji, come on, i'm hungry."
the other boy had only opened his eyes as wide as a few millimeters before closing them again. "lele, i'm still sleepy."
chenle groaned and rolled his eyes. "it's noon, stupid. it's time to get up. and also for breakfast."
"it's way past breakfast, let me sleep."
"all the more reason to get up." the older boy said, jumping off the bed to drag his friend out.
"nooooo."
"my house, my rules." and with that chenle successfully dragged the upper half of jisung's body out.
"fine."
they skipped down one of the many large halls that led to chenle's dining room. jisung had once said that chenle's house resembled a labyrinth and would take days and days to explore every single room, and chenle had proudly stated he had several more houses just like this one. jisung had stared at him with pure amazement.
and the fact that chenle was left alone at home with the maids and babysitters most of the time had made jisung baffled. he was only a young boy, he did not realise how sad it actually was. but he wouldn't have known anyway, because chenle always seemed to have the biggest smile plastered on his face.
"mom and dad are out again." chenle declared as he placed the written note down on the counter. "we'll have to make do with making our own breakfast."
"why don't you ask the cooks to make us breakfast?" jisung asked.
"chef kim doesn't let me into the kitchen, it's almost time for lunch too," chenle sulked but instantly smiled again. "besides i have something even better."
they snuck into the pantry in front of the kitchen and as they reached their destination to the back of the pantry, jisung gushed in disbelief. there were row after row of different brands of cereal.
"take anything you want." chenle said as he hopped over to fetch a stool.
it would take jisung quite a while for him to choose what he wanted but as he looked over to his partner in crime, chenle was already holding onto a box of cinnamon toast crunch.
classic zhong chenle.
"you always get that." the younger boy complained. "don't you want something else?"
the other boy smiled at him. "no, this one is the best."
it took him quite a while to choose what cereal he wanted, while he did that, chenle went out to get some milk, by the time the elder returned, jisung had hesitantly grabbed a cereal box and followed his friend back to the dining room. they ate at the kitchen counter, pouring heaps of cereal into their bowls before subsequently pouring in enough milk.
"which spoon would you like sungie?" chenle asked, holding out two spoons, one blue and the other green with ben 10 characters on it. jisung gingerly chose the blue one that matched his bowl. they smiled at each other as they dug into their cereal, but almost immediately jisung spit his out again.
"ew, that's disgusting." he said running his mouth under the cold tap water. chenle had taken the box to take a better look at it.
"ah, this is one of dad's protein cereals or something. it doesn't even have that much sugar."
