Today is the day. (Y/n) finally found the courage to confess to her long time crush, Remus, that, well, she likes him. It has been three years since she realized she liked him and now in their sixth, she couldn't bare not telling him, not when they were leaving school next year. (Y/n) thought she had a chance since she hadn't seen Remus openly fancying another girl let alone have a girlfriend. She just hopes she does not make a fool out of herself since confessing really takes a lot of guts. Only her friend Lily Evans knew this and was the one who continuously encourages her to do what she was about to do. (Y/n) finally gave in to her request, not being able to resist it herself and so, with an exhale, she and Lily entered the Great Hall. Well, here goes nothing.
Here goes nothing indeed, because when they entered, (y/n) saw that Moony was not in his seat with the Marauders. In fact, he wasn't anywhere in the Gryffindor long table. He was at the Hufflepuff's, talking to Margaret Pine. From afar, he looked really nervous: he was scratching his neck and he looked uneasy. It was as if he was confessing something embarrassing. Even just the thought of what Moony could be saying to Margaret hurt (y/n) and Lily knew this even without asking. But they weren't sure yet and Lily still had hope.
"Maybe he was borrowing notes, (y/n)," Evans said, smiling slightly. "Come on."
The pair went straight to their seat beside the Marauders, where Prongs, Padfoot and Wormtail were looking at Remus, snickering and smirking.
"What's he doing there?" Lily asked. (Y/n) didn't want to ask because she didn't want to hear the answer if ever it would confirm her theories as to what Moony might be telling the Hufflepuff girl.
"He's asking her for a date!" Prongs answered, laughing loudly, causing other Gryffindors to look their way, annoyed.
"What?! But they haven't even talked until now!" Lily said, looking at (y/n), concerned. But of course, it had been said and done. There wasn't a chance. How could she have been so stupid not to notice?
Padfoot was looking at (y/n), as if waiting for a reaction but she couldn't look back at him. "You okay, (y/n)?"
"Yeah, I just think I've forgotten to do the homework for Professor McGonagall this afternoon. I think I have time to spare, excuse me." It was hard to notice the hurt in (y/n)'s voice because she was trying her very best to sound convincing enough, to not give out her feelings about the situation but as soon as she stepped into the entrance hall, silent tears fell. Lily followed her, telling the lads that she was going to help her but the Marauders weren't convinced. It was (y/n) for Merlin's sake, she does her homework for fun.
Remus looked up and immediately spotted (y/n) leaving the Great Hall, crestfallen and he couldn't help but be concerned. It was not a secret to his friends that he liked (y/n) very much though he couldn't find it in him to tell her.
"What were you going to say, Remus?" Margaret Pine said, breaking his thoughts.
He was supposed to ask her out on a date as he was dared by Prongs to do it, having failed to complete a dare the night before.
"Uhm, sorry – uh – it was nothing. Sorry for bothering you. I got to go." And he left Margaret looking confused.
He returned to his friends and immediately asked, "Where did (y/n) go?"
"Apparently, she forgot her homework. Can you believe it?" Prongs said, quoting the word 'forgot' with his fingers.
"She's jealous, I tell you, we told her you were asking that girl out and she just went out," Padfoot said. "I told you she likes you and your coward self couldn't even give her a compliment."
"Hey! I tell her she's – uh – nice," Moony tried to defend himself.
"Too vague, Moony, too vague. Tell her she's looking like a goddess if you must," Padfoot, the girl expert, sighed.
Moony would but his nerves would get the best of him and now, he has two things to worry about: an explanation about the dare and asking her out.
-
It has been five days and Remus hasn't been able to do anything about (y/n). For one, (y/n) was completely ignoring her, that, he was sure of and two, he always seem to chicken out every time. But now, he's tired of this running away from him. He was going to catch (y/n) off guard and tell her everything.
She must be in the library, he thought but to his surprise, she wasn't. It was only Evans and McKinnon there.
"Lily, where's (y/n)?" he asked.
"Why? Do you need her notes or something? I can lend you mine if you want," Lily replied. She knew (y/n) wasn't ready to face Remus so she was covering up for her.
"Uh, no. I have to tell her something. Please tell me where she is, please."
Lily could see desperation in Moony's eyes and so, with a sigh, she said, "She's in the Owlery. You better tell her something good or else!" she added.
Remus merely nodded and Lily was left thinking if she made the right choice.
Sure enough, (y/n) was in the Owlery, having just let go of a barn owl.
"(Y/n)." Remus said, and saw how she tensed.
"Remus," she faced him, sounding breathless, "what are you doing here? I was just leaving."
"No, no please. I wanted to talk to you about something. Please don't leave," he said, unconsciously trying to block the way so she wouldn't try to escape.
"Oh okay, what about?" (y/n) asked, unsure. He's not here to ask dating tips now, would he?
"Look, about Margaret – "
"I'm sorry I can't help you with that. Perhaps, you should ask Sirius."
"What are you talking about?"
Now, she was confused. "What are you talking about?"
"I was going to say I don't like her like that because I like someone else."
"Oh." Now, he wants to hurt me twice, she thought. How bad could this week go?
"I think you should tell her, not me. I mean, isn't that the point of – uh – dating. I can't give you any tips either because I haven't had any experience. Like I told you, just ask Sirius or maybe James, since he's close to making Lily say yes but please not me – I'm not good at –"
"I like someone else and she's right in front of me because, isn't that the point of dating? You tell someone you like them?"
"What?" (y/n) turned red, unsure if she was even hearing it right. He couldn't possibly like her, right? Not after he asked someone else out?
"But what about Margaret? Are you cheating on her? With me?" she asked, close to tears.
"What?! No! No, that – that – was a dare. Please, believe me. You're the only one I have ever liked for so long. I just couldn't tell you because you don't seem to feel the same way."
She wanted to scoff at that but stopped herself. She said instead, "Really? You're not bluffing?" She was hopeful and Remus looked serious so she couldn't help but actually believe him.
"No, I'm not. I – I love you."
You broke into a wide smile and ran towards him, hugged him. "I love you, too. I was going to tell you the other day but you were busy asking someone else out." Remus pulled away.
"I honestly even didn't get to that part because I saw you walking out. I am so sorry, (y/n)." Remus looked sorry but you forgave him the moment he confessed.
"You could make up for it," you said, with a teasing smile.
"Anything, I would do anything. Tell me how," he asked almost pleadingly.
"You could take me out on a date."
He looked relieved, then broke into one of his dazzling smiles. "That's easy, love." He paused.
"Would you go on a date with me, (y/n)?" he asked.
"That was long overdue but of course, I would love to," (y/n) said.
You think nothing could get better than this moment but it did, the moment he kissed you. Right then and there.
