I was born in Australia and for the first quarter of my life, I lived in Australia until I was 10 and my parents moved to South Korea. It was pretty weird entering a new school with the same kids as me. In Australia, everyone spoke English. The only time my family spoke Korean was at home, although they wanted me to learn English they also didn't want me to forget the little Korean I knew. When we moved to South Korea everything had to change. Instead of trying to learn English I had to learn korean. But personally, I was passing my English classes the ones I was having trouble with was my regular 100% Korean speaking classes. In time my professors realized that I wasn't in the level in the language as they originally thought, so they assigned me a class buddy. He had to company me to every class I had. So they changed our classes and made sure we had every class together. According to my new friends they said he was the only person that knew both English and Korean. So I was pretty excited to meet him. I wondered where did he learn his English from? Monday was approaching so quickly I just wanted it to be here already.
Monday came around and I could finally meet the talented kid who would now share Majority of his day with me. We were told to go to the office to be handed our schedules and head to class. Unfortunately, he was late due to some unexpected traffic which was quickly forgiven due to him never being late before. I was told to head to class and that he would meet me there. They said to make sure to save him a seat. Class started and no sign of him yet, the first 20 mins of the class felt like I was there for 30 years. In a moment someone knocked on the door and asked for permission to enter the classroom. The school director escorted him to class so he wouldn't have any trouble getting inside. When he walked inside the class I couldn't believe who my new classmate was, he was so adorable. His cheeks were so squishy. I felt butterflies in my stomach, but I was so young I just thought I had gas and was about to fart so I tried holding in the gas. "hi my name Kim Namjoon, ill be your new classmate for the rest of the semester. I hope to help you as much as possible and help you pass your classes with extraordinary grades!" said namjoon. "Hi my name Kim So-Hyun, thank you so much for your help." Said sohyun. Namjoon sat next to me, my cheeks became so warm I felt like my pores were a volcano. When my classmate Namjoon told me why were my cheeks so red? That's when I knew I was blushing! Why was I blushing?! I quickly patted my face to try to calm down my redness. My heart was beating so fast just being around him. The class soon got started and we began our work. He was extremely good at English I was really surprised. He's not better than me because I was being raced in an English environment back in Australia. Otherwise, he would have definitely been better than me. When lunch time came by he showed me to his friends and introduced me to everyone I hadn't met yet. He was quite the extrovert popular kid. We ate together with his friends and it was pretty fun although I was getting some not so good looks from a group of girls at the end of the table. I asked him who were they because he didn't introduce me to them. Turns out they were all friends with a girl who really likes him and they gave dirty looks to anyone who was too close to him. I was fine with that since Namjoon and I were only talking because he was assigned to me. I just hoped they know that and don't cause any trouble with me. After lunch we went back to our last class of the day I asked him where did he learn his English from and he said that his mother is from Korea but his father is from the states. So it was easy for him to learn both since he was being taught both at home. He's mixed? Wow! That's impressive. But I thought it was weird a little because although being mixed he looked nothing more than Korean. The last class was so long I felt like it was an eternity. When class was over we went to where our parents pick us up, I introduced him to my dad as my classmate who was assigned to me so I could improve my Korean. My father was so happy to know I was making friends that were helping me in class, he was just a little concern to why didn't they assign me a girl. I tried explaining he was the only one fluent enough to actually be able to help me. Namjoons parents arrive at a couple of mins into our conversation and they were a pretty cute looking couple. My father greeted them and complimented them on such a bright son they had. After a semi-long conversation, my father invited Namjoon and his parents over to our house so they would get to know each other more since both their kids would now be spending most of their day together. His parents accepted. Namjoon smiled at me and we went into our parent's car to head to my house. On the way there my father called my mother to tell her we had visitors coming, "Sohyun handsome friend is coming, yea! the top student who was assigned to her. He's really polite." said my father. "dad, his not that handsome!!" I said. My face began to get warm again and I felt this fluttery feeling in my stomach I didn't know what it was until I remember Namjoon telling me my cheeks were red. That's when I began to pat my face again to calm down my redness. My father noticed and asked if I was feeling sick? Maybe I had a fever. When we got home my father told my mom to check my temperature because I might have a fever. He told her I got really red and my face was really warm. My mom laughed and asked if that happened when we were talking about Namjoon. He replied yea and my mother laughed again. "someone has a crush" said my mother. "what? A crush, who?" my father asked, my mom looked at me and made a smirk. My father quickly noticed and said I was too young to be thinking of that. A few mins later Namjoons parents arrived and we greeted them inside. My parents asked them so many questions and talked about so many grown-up things. While they were chatting I took namjoon to my studying cubby where we began to study and he began to teach me more about the Korean language. An hour or so passed by and we hear little steps in the hallway we look to the corner of our eyes to see our parents watching us by the door. You could hear them whispering "look they're studying!" we slowly turn our heads towards them and they start waving at us. We then wave back look at each other and giggle. After two hours of long studying, we go downstairs to find our parents still talking as if they hadn't been talking for the last two hours.
. For the rest of the semester that would be our routine. Our parents would drop us off at one of our houses if we didn't have any family plans for that day. After a while, Namjoon and I became best friends. We were inseparable. My Korean improved so much because of his help, we begged our parents to talk to the school director so he could be assigned to me until I was able to take the Korean test and pass it. They showed him how much I had improved in class because of him and told him it was beneficial for both of us. Since I was improving his English and he was improving my Korean. The school director agreed, when Joon and I found out, we were static! We would be in the same class for the rest of middle school, well for the meanwhile until I was able to pass my test with 95 and above. After two years of being in the same class, I was able to pass my exam with a 98.76% I was one point away from Namjoons score. This year Namjoon and I wouldn't have the same classes because I had passed my test. We were pretty upset about that because we didn't want to make other friends we just wanted each other as friends and no one else. Of course, we did have other friends. It was just no one was allowed into our 2-way circle. It was just Joon and I against the world. Over time we became the untouchables because Namjoon was pretty popular. One because he was an extrovert and was really easy to communicate with. Two he could make friends really easily and third reason? Well, you've seen his picture he's gorgeous. Everyone wanted to be friends with him. When I began to get close to him I learned to become an extrovert as well I learned his techniques. And let's just say I didn't fall behind on the physical aspect as well. I know it sounds a little arrogant but it's the truth on our time off Namjoon and I would exercise and we ate healthy most of the time. We became really popular together, it was funny to us cause everyone would say how we ran the school. In reality, we just did us. This year would be one of the 3 most stressful years of our lives. Finding out if we would go to the same high school. We knew we would since our academic records were basically perfect and we had extracurricular activities outside of school which was what schools were looking for. We applied to the same schools, scared of the results. That day came so exhaustingly slow that when the time came we were just done waiting. We went home immediately and called our parents so we could open it together. We opened our envelopes with our hearts beating out of our chests this would determine whether our friendship would strive or slowly disappear, our parents kept our spirits up by telling us we were excellent students. We had to have at least one school that accepted both of us, but then...we saw the list...
