I woke up in a sweat,
"That must've been the weirdest dream I've had in a while..." I thought. I looked over at my still clock waiting for the deadly alarm to go off signaling another dreaded day of school. Seconds later I hear the soft tick before the alarm.
"Welp," I reluctantly say to myself,
"Time for school". As I pick out an outfit for myself, I wonder what suspicions will hit me today. I decide on a pair of light denim ripped jeans, a lavender hoodie with the words, "Sanibel Island" on them, and my favorite black choker with a purple rose on the front. I, as always, wear my hair down. I would wear my hair up more often if it weren't so short.
I rush into the kitchen grabbing a piece of toast already thrown in the toaster, getting my backpack and unplugging my phone from the community charger in our house. Seven chargers but only five are being used. See, I live with 5 people, me, my mom, my dad, and my two younger brothers. My grandparents used to live with us in our big country house, but one day they just moved away and we've never seen them since.
Anywho, I headed out the door unscathed. Or, at least that's what I thought. Just as I had my hand on the doorknob I heard a, "Where ya goin'?" from behind me. It was my youngest brother, Liam. I was surprised since the boys usually woke up an hour after me, but I went along with it.
"Hey, buddy boo? Why're you up so early?"
"Kepuz." He answered gently. He then came up to me and hugged my leg.
" 'Manda?" He asked.
"Yes?" I reply. His reply made my heart sting and melt all at once.
"Do you love me?" I was absolutely flabbergasted. Of course, I did! Why would he think otherwise? Did I do something wrong?
"Of course buddy boo! Why'd you think otherwise?" I say shakily. Wondering why he'd think that.
"Cuz you're never home anymore!", I wasn't hiding it, I always spent time away with my "friends or in my room hiding, pretending to be doing something productive. Usually, I'd say something reassuring but this time, I just said,
"...Bye bud, see ya after school", I gave him a kiss on the forehead and headed out. As I boarded the bus I began thinking about what I'd say as a solution.
