Leaves crunched under her shoes as Robin left her porch in the dark, her senses alive with the sounds of night around her on the land their family had lived on for generations. Trees creaked and leaves shuttered in the gentle breeze and with the gentle breeze came a smell Robin did not recognize.
Moving cautiously to the edge of the trees Robin's stealth kicked in immediately: there was an intruder on her land. Quickly but ever so silently Robin moved across the forest floor. As the smell became stronger Robin's heartrate increased and she was on the hunt, abandoning the ground for the upper trees as she climbed up an older willow, seemingly flying from it's withered, beautiful branches into the oaks nearby.
Soon she could smell the excess of an extinguished fire. Calming herself, Robin dropped through the branches until she was just above the now abandoned remains of the fire made by the unknown trespassers. Scanning the area she backed into the darkness against the trunk of her tree as she realized there was still someone there, covered by a burlap rug of some sort.
The figure seemed to be still yet breathing. Ever so carefully Robin dropped from the tree and approached the body. Kneeling beside it she silently took hold of the fabric and pulled it back quickly. To her suprise a girl, no younger then 16, looked at her with big purple eyes that burned with urgency.
"Shhhh!" warned the girl as she sat up. What was once surely blonde hair was dirty and somewhat matted , and her clothes were no better off.
Irritated, Robin waved away the girls warning. "This is my property, what are you doing here?!" She demanded. The girl pushed the rest of the fabric away to reveal she was bound by her hands and feet, the rope so tight there was dried blood from the broken skin visible. "Please keep your voice down, there's not much time," She whispered frantically, "let me go, we have to run before they return!"
Robin instantly felt the presence of others coming through the trees fast and knew the situation had suddenly turned dier. "Alright, hold on, I'm going to get you out of here!" Robin said as she pulled a knife from her side sheath. She quickly cut the ropes and tried to help the mystery girl to her feet, but the poor thing fell in weakness. "Go, run, you have to go!" She begged Robin, but Robin wouldn't have it. Robin pulled the girl onto her back and pulled her arms around her neck. "Hold on as tight as you can!" She urged as she dashed into the woods at the speed of light.
Dodging trees and flying over streams and obstacles Robin fled from the unknown enemy, but despite her speed there were figures closing in quickly.
"STOP, ROBIN STOP!" The girl shouted, squeezing Robin's neck from taking in oxygen. Robin slammed her feet into the dirt and dropped the girl, gasping for breathe as she looked into those deep purple eyes again. "What the fuck, we can make it, what..." She started, but the girl hushed her. "Robin, I need you to listen to me, we cannot run, so listen." The girl urged, pulling Robin close. "How do you know my name?!" Robin asked, her eyes darting to a fro as the unknown group kept getting closer and closer. The girl shook her head and held Robin's face, their eyes locked together. "No matter what, no matter where, you have to promise to come back for me. You have to promise me you'll keep trying." She urged, tears making streaks through the dirt on her face.
Robin took the girls hands and squeezed them hard. "If we run now, if we go.." she started, but the girl shook her head and squeezed Robin's hands back. "Make the promise. Tell me you will come back for me, no matter what, YOU WILL COME BACK." She yelled, the wind beginning to blow and churn around them. The group was less then 100 yards now, a circle of what felt like pure evil coming in for the kill. "I PROMISE! I WILL COME BACK!" Robin shouted over the wind, pulling her hands away to raise them for battle. "Don't forget me. Don't forget your promise!" Shouted the girl as she swept her hands in a quick motion. Robin felt her feet leave the ground and she felt as if a tornado was pulling her through the trees and to the sky.
Robin saw dark figures appear around the girl as she was struck by darkness. Pain fled into Robin's ears from the shreak, and tears spilled as Robin cried to her: "NO! I WILL COME BACK! I WILL COME BACK, I PROMISE! I PROMIIIISSSEEEE......". Darkness.
