Hi again! Here is chapter two. I hope you like it. :)
I always have this unending feeling that I'm being left out. Even my mother had secrets that she couldn't tell me but I had none.
Allison doesn't talk to me as much as she use to and we haven't went shopping together in a long time. We use to spend every waking minute together but now she seems distracted and distant. She pretends like she doesn't know me in school and the only time she talks to me is to ask me random questions like how my day went but she eventually gave up on trying to have small talk. We don't talk at all now.
I rubbed my cold hands together as the hospital got further and further behind me. The moon was high above me but it wasn't completely full and the stars surrounding it glistened. I eventually got near the woods but they don't scare me. Me and Allison use to go in them all the time to test out our weapons or just to talk but she doesn't like going in them anymore. She warned me to stay away from them but she didn't give me a reason. I go through the woods at least once a day but I have never told anyone, not that anyone ever asks me.
I tried to keep my mind off of my mother but my mind kept replying her image. I sat down next to the road and clutched myself tightly. I suddenly wished I would stop breathing but I knew I wasn't that lucky. I let the tears fall and they felt warm against my face.
A police car pulled up next to me. I blinked and wiped the tears away.
I looked up to see Sheriff Stilinski and his son Stiles in the car. "Amber?" The Sheriff said getting out of his car. He walked over to me and helped me up. "What are you doing out here?" "Please don't make me go home." I said as I tried to control my breaths. "I kind of have to." I shook my head. "Please. I can't be there right now. Can you just drive me to the school parking lot?" I usually go to the school parking lot. It is one of my many secret places to get away. "How about you come home with me and eat dinner with us and then I'll take you home?" I nodded unable to speak anymore.
He opened up the back door to his police car and let me in. Stiles looked back at me. "Hey, um...." "Amber." I said with a stab of pain, no one knows me. "Amber. Yeah, hi." "Hi." That seemed to end our conversation but I didn't mind, I still feel the numbness inside. I wiped the tears away and laid down in the back of the car. The Sheriff got into the driver's seat and started to drive.
The car drive was silent and my thoughts were all about my mom. I finally spoke trying to keep the thoughts away. "So, what are we having for dinner?" I sat up in the seat and looked out at the passing woods. "Um...is pizza okay?" The Sheriff said. "That's okay." Stiles cleared his throat, this must be awkward for him but it is awkward for me too.
"Do you know Scott?" Stiles asked kindly. He is referring to Allison's ex-boyfriend who is his best friend. He ate dinner with us once but I have never really spoke to him. "Yeah but I've never talked to him." Stiles nodded. "Your Allison's twin sister, right?" "Yes." At least I think I still am, she sure doesn't act like it. I made a note to ask Stiles what he thinks about Allison later. He might know why she is acting so strange and pretending she doesn't know me. "Cool." I took in a deep breath and tried to make myself feel normal but it didn't work.
The numbness still lingered over me and for a moment I thought that maybe I am dying but it didn't happen. I kept reminding myself to breath so that I wouldn't suffocate myself. "Okay, were here." The Sheriff said as he pulled up into the driveway of a house with a jeep in the driveway.
I got out of the car almost at the exact same time Stiles did. He looked at me with a sympathetic look almost just like the one his farther gave me at the hospital. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me. He followed his dad to the door and I followed behind them
The minute I walked inside I was greeting to the lovely smell of cinnamon, my favorite. I took a deep sniff of the air and let it settle in my lungs for a moment. "I'm going to go order the pizza." The Sheriff said leaving me and Stiles standing alone at the front of the stairs. "So..." Stiles said awkwardly. "So..." I repeated. "I have to ask you a question." I said remembering my note to ask him about Allison. "Okay, we can go up to my room." I nodded and followed him up the stairs.
He opened his room door revealing a neatly organized room. I walked inside behind him and he pulled out a computer chair for me to sit. I sat down and tried to make myself comfortable but failed. He sat down on his bed and looked at me with a smile. "Okay, ask away." "Allison has been acting strange lately." I said observing his face closely. He uncomfortably looked away from me and around his room. I know he is trying to come up with a lie. Has everyone decided to keep me out of everything. "I don't know. You'll have to ask Scott. I don't really hang out with her that much." I looked towards the floor.
"Everyone seems to be leaving me out of everything..." I blurted out for the first time. I usually keep my thoughts to myself but I needed to say them to someone eventually. "Like I'm always just in the way." I felt a tear come down my face and wiped it away.
An uncomfortable silence washed over the room. "I know how it feels to lose someone. It's not easy." Stiles said breaking the silence. I nodded. "I'm finding that out." "You feel numb all over and you can't block out your thoughts about them. You feel alone and you feel a painful stabbing pain straight through your heart. You find it harder to breathe..." He hit everything I'm feeling spot on. "Exactly." I breathed. "I would tell you that it gets easier but it doesn't. No matter what you do you'll always think about them every now and then." I listened closely to his words and somehow found comfort within them. "Trying to forget won't help, it will only make it worse." He said standing up from his bed.
He walked over to his dresser and pulled a small picture out it. With the picture in his hand he walked back over to me and sat back down. He then handed my the picture and I took it. I studied it. "That was my mother." He said painfully. The picture was of a women that looked to be in her late thirties. She had blond hair and blue-green eyes. Her blond hair had strands of grey in it that were visible but gave a nice touch to her overall look. Her nose looks exactly like Stiles's nose. "She has your nose." "Had." Stiles correctly with a heart breaking expression.
I handed him the picture and he held onto it tightly. "Did you ever meet my mother?" I asked trying to change the subject. "Yes. She seemed..." "Tense." I filled in the blank for him. "No, well yes but..." "It's okay. We weren't that close but I'm still upset that she's actually gone. I mean, I only get one mother. She wasn't always that tense and stressed, she use to be the happiest person I knew." He nodded and hesitated before speaking. "What changed?" "I wish I knew." He stared at me for a moment. "I just want to know what my whole family is hiding from me." "You don't want to know." He said. I looked up to him confused. Is he in on this too?
"What do you mean?" I asked. "The pizza is probably here by now." He said getting up from the bed. I sighed, he isn't going to tell me anything. I stood up from the chair and followed him down the stairs.
The pizza was in the kitchen waiting on us. Stiles dad was sitting at the table with an open bottle of alcohol in front of him. I didn't know he drank. I pretended not to notice and Stiles grabbed me a plate from in the cabinet. I got two slices of pizza and sat down at the table across from the Sheriff. Stiles joined us a few seconds later.
We had a quite dinner but it didn't bother me. I stared out of the kitchen window out into the woods. I know I belong there, I love it more than my own home. The woods are completely hidden away from everything and it makes me feel whole. I finished my pizza quickly and sat my plate in the sink.
"Thank you for dinner." "Your welcome." The Sheriff said with a soft smile. "I'll drive you home." Stiles said putting his plate in the sink. "Okay." I said to Stiles. "Thank you again." I directed to the Sheriff. He took a gulp of his bottle. "No problem. If you ever need anything, let me know." I managed to give him a half smile as I walked out of the kitchen with Stiles.
We waked outside back into the cold and got into his jeep. As soon as he backed out of the driveway and started going down the road I saw something jump out in front of the jeep. It was nothing but a big black blur to me. My heart stopped as Stiles slammed on the brakes.
