Destined Fate
After the surgery has been conducted by several doctors and nurses, Jake was kept unconscious. Shane, Christine and Jasmine came out of the operation room with tired faces as they took off their masks. All Jake’s relatives ran up to Jasmine with hope and tears written all over their eyes. Taylor held Jasmine’s hands with teary eyes, but she made sure to be strong.
Jasmine bit her bottom lip and examine all the concerned faces with sadness filling up her heart. “The operation was successful.” She said slowly and the group sighed, wiping an invisible sweat on their foreheads,
“That’s great!” Chloe was able to crack a smile, but Xavier inspects his wife’s expression slowly. There wasn’t a bit happiness in her voice.
He swallowed hard, “What’s wrong with him?” he knew from Jasmine’s look that the operation wasn’t smooth. He bit the inside of his cheek staring frankly at Jasmine as she did the same with sympathy. All the faces directed their attention towards the couple with curiosity,
“Jake…” Jasmine couldn’t say it without taking a deep breath. She couldn’t do this. Shane sighs heavily holding Christine in his arms, patting her back. “He won’t be able to walk.” Jasmine shuts her eyes closed and Taylor backs up with her tears now dropping towards the white tiled floors. Xavier stared up at the ceiling blinking back tears, and turns his back to walk outside. Jasmine hurriedly follows after her husband. Aria and the rest of the group waited outside Jake’s room, waiting for him to open his eyes and accept reality. Chloe stayed with Taylor, helping her friend go through this.
“He can’t walk…” Taylor repeated and Chloe nodded, seeing the tears in Taylor’s eyes made her tear up also. No one wanted this car accident to happen.
Chloe pulled her friend into a tight hug, not letting her stomach get in the way. “You don’t know how much he wants to be a doctor.” Taylor sniffles in between cries.
Chloe pulled out of the hug and sat down with Taylor on the bench siding on one of the walls and waited until her friend finished crying. It wasn’t until fifteen minutes later that all the tears Taylor had were clear from her eyes, Chloe wiped her own wet face and got up to grab a warm cup of coffee for both of them.
Taylor held the cup in her hands and set it between her knees in her hand as she stares blankly into space thinking about how depressed Jake would be. Bits by bits, she reminisces how Jake strives to become a great surgeon because of his family. His only wish was to become a great doctor.
“He’s a strong guy.” Chloe tried to be brave herself. Even though Jake was just a friend of hers, she had some feelings towards him. She treats him as if he was her brother. He was always there to help her and make her laugh. Jake was a guy that she could not miss on. “He can make it through this obstacle.” Chloe rubs Taylor back.
“Why him?” Taylor yelled and puts her hand up to the sides of her head, pushing back her blond curly hair. “If I could take his place, I would.” Her voice cracked, sniffing up the humid air in the building. Then Alyson ran up to the girls notifying that Jake has woken up, so Taylor and Chloe rushes towards his room but the doctor said that he didn’t want anyone near him right now. Jamie pats Taylor’s back while glancing at the window where Jake was throwing the pillows to the ground angrily. Taylor stood outside the room, staring at her boyfriend unbelievably.
“I want to go inside.” She takes a deep breath and Aria held her hand tightly,
“Are you sure?” Aria didn’t think it was a good time for Taylor to come near Jake since he’s hot tempered right now and Taylor nodded reassuringly.
“I want to be with him right now.” Taylor slips her cold hands out of Aria’s warm ones. She turned the doorknob and looks at Jake’s sitting figure on the white bed.
