An illness developed from unrequited love. Flowers will grow in the victims lungs causing them to cough up petals, and in serious cases, whole flowers. The most simple cure for this disease is for the loved one to confess and return the feelings and emotions of genuine love; a happy ending.

In unfortunate circumstances where the feelings are never returned, the stem of the plants growing in the patients body can be surgically removed, causing the patient to unlove the once loved but also lose all their memories with that person. If left untreated, the patient will suffer a cruel, unsympathetic death.

There are two types of Hanahaki:

Minor Hanahaki 🥀

Cause:
Normal during puberty; puppy love

Symptoms:
Coughing up petals. Throat can become irritated

Cure:
Goes away naturally as admiration for the person fades. Irritated throat can be treated with cough syrup

Dying:
Cannot die from Minor Hanahaki

Major Hanahaki 🥀🥀

Cause:
Wanting to be in a relationship with that person; true love.

Symptoms:
Itchy throat > petals > blood > whole flowers > difficulty breathing.

Cure:
Confession of mutual feelings.
Surgical removal.

Side Effects of surgery:
After surgery, it will take a while to love again depending on the intensity of the previous lover; could be up to 2 years.
There is a 25% chance of losing the ability to love ever again.

Dying:
Thick gardens grow in and around lungs making it difficult to breathe. Eventually the root of the plants pierce the heart.
