Magnus walked down the corridor of the Institute, long strides carrying him along quickly, he'd gotten a text from Isabelle saying that Alec had returned from his week long trip to Idris to discus 'head of the Institute stuff' as he had put it. That had been an hour ago, Alec still hadn't returned to the loft and Magnus had started to worry. Had he been hurt, was he currently lying on a bed with white sheets stained red with his blood, many thoughts similar to these ran through his mind as he walked. That was until he collided with someone. "Magnus, I didn't expect to see you here." Isabelle said, surprise painting her features. Deciding to cut straight to the point Magnus replied, "Were's Alexander? Is he hurt?"
"What? No Alec's fine," Isabelle said, looking more confused than surprised now, "why would you think that?"
"Well, you sent me that message an hour age and he hadn't returned, I assumed the something had happened."
"Oh," Isabelle said, " I assumed that you knew that Alec would be staying here tonight."
"And why would he be doing that?" Magnus asked, doubting that Alec would prefer the Institute over the loft. "Well, he was separated from Jace for a week ." Isabelle replied.
"What has that got to do with anything?" he questioned.
"Magnus, how much do you know about parabatai's?" Isabelle asked. The question derailed Magnus completely, "Um, they're a pair of warriors who fight together as lifelong partners, bound together by oath." He replied. "Anything else?" Isabelle asked, Magnus shook his head. A small smile crept up Isabelle's face, laughing a little she said "come with me." before tuning on her heal and walking of down the corridor. Magnus, still very confused, followed behind her as she lead them down corridors to area Magnus recognised as where the bedrooms were. Isabelle stopped outside a door that looked the same as all the others, she knocked on the door and when she got no reply, she gently pushed the door open. Putting a finger to her lips in a shushing gesture, Isabelle nodded her head towards the door indicating for him to look into the room. Sticking his head round the door, Magnus only become more confused by what he saw. The room was obviously Jace's judging by how neat it was, everything was neatly put away with no evidence that the room belonged to anybody specific. The plain room made the two figures on the bed stick out even more. Jace and Alec were asleep on the bed curled up together. Jace's legs were thrown over Alec's and he was laying half on Alec's chest. his face was mostly hidden in Alec's neck. In return, Alec had buried his face in Jace's golden hair and had an arm wrapped around his shoulder, holding the smaller boy in place. Retreating from the room, Magnus turned to Isabelle, confusion evident across his face. "Parabatai," she said, "they don't like to be separated." Suddenly it made sense. Thinking back to when he had seen Alec and Jace together, he realised that they always stood very close together, shoulders touching or arms brushing together. OK, so maybe he had to share his boyfriend with Jace, but their were worse people for said boyfriend to share a soul with.
