A few days later , Katt continuously woke up in a daze, a rhythmic pounding presented behind her eyes.

Her curtains swayed lazily with the sea breeze, light shining brightly in her room. Her hair was tangled and scruffy, covering the pillows and her face.

Raking a hand through it, she sighed and shuffled out of bed. Pink bunny slippers adorned, she trotted downstairs for breakfast.

Every day it got easier for her to get used to not having someone already down in the kitchen, cooking up pancakes or humming to some old song.

As she sat at their dining table, she took out her phone and tapped away. Delving into a plethora of memes and entertainment.

Flicking away the last tabs, Katt glanced at the calendar hanging on their pantry door. It was already a new month, and the old page needed to be torn off.

Seeing all the dates and events marking it up, she was reminded of all the horror that had occurred. It was a reminder everyday, to sit and stare at that calendar page.

Finally, she stood up, walked over to the pantry door, and with one quick movement tore off the paper.

Crushing it in her hands, tearing and balling it up, she chucked it into the trash and turned her back from it.

This is where her new life would begin, where she would heal and start again with their new, broken but loving family.

She would meet new people, start new things, and finally take a breath and live.
