Bonding day. The single most important day for ANY sixteen year old. This was the day sixteen year old drink the Summoning Lava and attempted to summon a dragon to their realm. Not everyone summoned a dragon and if you did happen to summon a dragon you had to be very lucky. Ryan was sitting on his bed reading a book about all the different types of dragon that have been summoned. The dragon that had fascinated him the most was the ChangeWings. The ChangeWings has attributes of every dragon in it's true form and it could look like any dragon it wanted to. Back to the summoning, if you were lucky to summon a dragon the dragon could go into stasis form and become a tattoo on the bearers body part of choice and the dragons wings would grow out of the back near the shoulder blades of the summoner, the tail of the dragon grew out near the hindquarters, scales grew out on the arms, the eyes shifted into what the dragons eyes were, and horns of the dragon grew out as well. Of course this cause some pain seeing as your bones had to shift and adjust, but after the first time of Stasis it wouldn't hurt. Since your bones had to shift the parts of the dragon adjusted to the partners size and weight and the dragon has to choose to display its traits. Ryan was willing to take the risk and there was even the chance to become a hero by joining the GoldenWings. A group of people that summoned dragons and joined the cause at fighting the dark forces. The bell tolled to call the people of the town to the square for the ceremony. Ryan put his book away and walked to the broken window. He stop then jumped out like he done many times before and caught the rope and climbed down. Since he lived in a fishing village he hoped to summon a SeaWing to benefit his village. Before he even got to the square he could see some successful summoners flying in and bringing their dragons into a stasis form. Today he was one of six teenagers to attempt to summon a dragon. The other five teenagers were already there and waiting on him. The village GoldenWing was their and she looked down at him and smiled. Nora and her RockWing Cole were up on the stage. The families of the summoner were put in the front row seats, and seeing as Ryan's parents left him when he was five and he grew up on the streets he didn't expect them to be showing up anytime soon. He jumped up on the stage ignoring the stairs and walked up to Nora and shook her hand.
"Good thing you showed up or we would have begun without you." Said Nora in her Stiofela accent, but then winked to assure Ryan she was joking with him. Nora had been one of Ryan's only friends and wasn't much older than he was. She was the towns Lave bringer and came to visit the town every so often and came on the Bonding Day. Ryan nodded and went over to Granite and petted the dragon's granite armored head.At that moment he noticed the other GoldenWing standing behind her his face covered by a golden hood, and his tattoo couldn't been seen, but it was clear which dragon he got. With yellow wings, a tail with a poison barb at the end, yellow scales along his arms, and dark brown horns that never curved it was clear this man got a Sandwing and took the oath like Nora did as well. Ryan got in line with the five others who all gave him a salty look. They were all children of the famous and rich who came from a loooong line of summoners and warriors all who hoped that they would call upon a dragon. Nora looked at all of them then turned to face the crowd.
"Ladies and gentlemen please lend me your ears" Started Nora as the crowd went quite and looked up at her as she smiled and continued, "Today these young summoners will attempt to summon a dragon which has been on for centuries and the Lava given to us from Magma the VolcanoWing his own blood." She walked over to a table with six small bowls containing the lava. "Will the first person please step forward." The first contestant a female with platinum hair stepped forward and bowed. It was clear she was from a family of Icewing summoners. Nora picked up on of the bowls and placed it in her hands. The girl smiled and drank the Lava and winched like everyone did. When she put the bowl down she looked around and nothing happened. She walked back to where she was standing failing the summoning. This went on a total of four times until it came to Ryan. If the children of summoners couldn't summon a dragon what chance did he have. "Ryan please step forward." Nora announced as the others looked at him. He was the only one who he called by name since he was the only one she knew by name. Ryan pulled on the collar of his shirt and stepped forward every part of him shaking.
'Did the others shake this much?' He thought as he walked up to her and bowed like the others still shaking. He felt the gaze of the hundreds of people in the crowd and the others teenagers on the stage. Nora picked up the bowl of Lava and gave it to him. He held out his hand as Nora placed the bowl in his hand. He looked in the bowl and seen the Lava rippling since he was shaking so much. Ryan could feel the heat of the Lava as he held the bowl in his hands.
"Oh hurry up and drink it already we know how it's going to end!" Yelled a man in the crowd and he also had platinum hair like the one girl. Must be her father or someone else related to her. The thought of failure always hit him and he thought if he failed. Nora looked out to the crowd and located the man as did Granite.
"The drinker may take as long as he or she wishes before drinking." Said Nora in a placid voice then she and Granite looked at him. He took a deep breath and exhaled. He raised the bowl and brought it to his lips. The second the Lava hit his lips he wanted to pull the bowl away with how hot it was. Well it wasn't enough to melt his throat, but it still burned like bloody hell. He pulled the bowl away he felt a bright burning sensation in his chest as he felt to one knee as the sky darkened. Nora, Granite, the man, and the other teenagers along with the audience looked up to the sky as the ground shook then a blinding flash of bright light. Ryan put a hand up to shield his eyes from the light then everything went back to normal. No more shaking, the sun reappeared, and the bright light went away. Ryan heard gasp from the audience, the tenagers behind him, and Nora, Cole, and the man. When he removed his hand what he saw took the breath away from him. The dragon in front of him loomed over the crowd and looked at Ryan and lowered its neck. Ryan stood up as the entire crowd went silent as he approached the dragon. He put his hand in front of the dragon close to its forehead and the dragon pushed its head forward into Ryan's open hand. It can't be, but it was all real this wasn't a dream Ryan summoned a ChangeWing. Ryan ran his hand along the smooth horns of the dragon and held back some tears. The scales of the dragon shifted into a blue, green, and white color. The man that had the SandWing features now had his hood off and laid his hand on Ryan's shoulder. Ryan turned around and looked up at the man and the dragon looked at the man as well.
"Son, my name is Erik leader of the GoldenWings and I have a matter that needs to be discussed with you in private." Said Erik as he looked up at the Changewing. Ryan nodded and started leading the way to the place he called home. Erik looked up at the old building as Ethan grabbed the rope and started to climb as Erik unfolded his wings and flew up to the window. The ChangeWing lifted Ryan to the open window and looked inside at the two.
"It isn't much, but it's home not much I can do so what did you want to discuss about?" Asked Ryan sitting on the moth eaten matters he called a bed
"A great evil is rising in our fine land of Ionnimar and dragon summoning is become rarer and rarer and only between a special few," Erik looked at him then at the Changewing out the window, "You have summoned a ChangeWing fr-"
"His name is Scorcher." Said Ryan cutting him off with no fear in his voice.
"You have summoned Scorcher the second ChangeWing to be summoned in history," Said Erik as he walked to the window and looked out over the village "We need you to stop the darkness from spreading anything this army gets its hands on will turn it evil." Said Erik "I'm not asking you to join the GoldenWings I'm asking you to help us in the fight and after it's over I won't ask anything else of you." Erik turned around and looked at Ryan. "What do you say?"
"I'm not going to fight for the GoldenWings," Said Ryan with his head held down then looked up at Erik then smiled "I'm fighting with the GoldenWings." Erik smiled at his response and shook Ryan's hand.
"We have a ship waiting in the harbor for us I'll see you on board gather whatever it is you need here then meet me there understood?" Asked Erik as Ryan nodded he walked to the window and released his dragon outside as the SandWing took fight. Scorpion had scars crisscrossing her body from past battles. Erik jumped on her back as they flew off to the harbor. All Ryan grabbed was the book over the types of dragons as he put it in a satchel he stole a while back and hung it around his shoulders. He looked out the window and jumped to the rope as he grabbed in Scorcher caught him on his back and they took off. Ryan had no idea how to ride a dragon, so this was new to him so he grabbed the ice wing spikes on the back of Scorcher's neck and flew to the harbor as a large ship came into view. This was it he was leaving everything he knew.
