Jaxyl

I've been staring at the phone for the past hour shook and confused.

Tad Kryllen is not a friendly man. He wouldn't make a phone call like that unless he was trying to threaten me. Would he?

I don't know what to think. Should I take this serious or should I not? He never said the actual words but his tone told it all.

It was nearing eleven o'clock, meaning Adarian should be out of his exam by now. I mind linked him to meet me in my office.

"What's wrong?" he asked as soon as he stepped in my office.

"I just received a call from Tad Kryllen."

His posture stiffened and his face went emotionless. He slid the empty chair in front of my desk behind him and sat.

"What did he want?" he asks, appearing unnerved as always.

"Nothing, he congratulated me then informed me that he knows I have 'something of his' but not to worry. Then he ended the call."

"We both know he's talking about you. I need you to tell me if this is a threat," I told him.

He sighed, thinking in silence for a moment, "I don't know," he shook his head.

"But what I do know is that if that man threatens you, there is no questioning it. You will know."

"I know he didn't make a direct threat but his voice sounded sinister."

"Listen, if it will make you feel better, I can leave."

"No," I contest immediately. "You don't have to do that."

"But Jax, if this does turn out to be a threat, we won't know until it's too late. You have to think about your pack first, not me."

"You are apart of my pack," I made the point clear to him. "I can't show fear to this man, regardless of any threat he makes. I'm a new, young alpha. If I show any sign of weakness, I will have multiple threats to worry about."

"The only peers I trust are the ones here in this pack, not the ones that I was surrounded by at Academy. Hell, not even our allies. No one has ever known me to be weak Adarian, and sending you away would show this man that I am scared to protect my pack members." I explain to him.

"What are you going to do?" he asks.

I honestly didn't have a plan but an idea came to mind.

"Security. We tighten up the security around the perimeter."

"We need a plan though, an entire new system. No offense but the one your dad and the chief has in place is old and could use some updating."

"Actually, I agree," I reach over and send a quick email to all the ranks so that we could have a meeting tomorrow.

This needs to be done as soon as possible and there's no way I, or any of us, can make time today.

"You have a training course today?" I ask.

"Yes," he sighed tiredly. "Luckily, it's the last one and then I have to take the final exam."

"Will you be home early?" I ask.

He gave me a weird look. "Why are you asking me questions you never usually ask?"

"Can you just answer my question please?"
