A long time ago, in a land now forgotten, there was a small town. And at the edge of this town, was a house. This was the home of the town's dollmaker. One day, the dollmaker decided to created a small fairy, to keep him company and make him happy. His hands,  old and large however caused many problems while creating her.

Her eyes though beautiful and deep green, were uneven, and her lips were crooked. The dollmaker didn't care. To him, she was the most beautiful thing in the world. He had created her, and he loved her. He gave the fairy beautiful green long wings, to match her eyes, blonde long hair, and a flowing dress.

She had smooth pale porcelain skin, as the dollmaker polished her every day. Then one day, the dollmaker carefully lifted the fairy from her case. He carried her into a dark building, and laid her on a table.

"Please!" The dollmaker pleaded. "Give this doll life!" He said, holding his hands together.

A tall woman stepped from the darkness and nodded. "But be warned. If you ignore or harm her in any way, you will lose the magic to talk to each other." She said, waving a jewled hand over the fairy. Slowly, the fairy blinked.

"My precious!" The dollmaker said, kneeling down to see the fairy closer. "You live!" He said, his voice filled with shock. Slowly the doll turned her head and looked at the dollmaker. She smiled.

Anxiously, the dollmaker lifted up the fairy and rushed back to his shop. "My precious!" The dollmaker said, unable to take his eyes off of the doll. Carefully, the fairy stood up and looked at her creator.

"Hello Father." She said, smiling warmly. "How can I help you?" She said, reaching out her tiny hand.

"I just want to look at you my darling." He replied, watching her as she moved. The doll nodded, and spun around letting the dollmaker examine her. Before long, it was late into the night and the man yawned.

"Father, you must rest." She said, resting her cold porcelain hand on his warm flesh one.

"Yes. Goodnight my precious." He said, gently patting her on the head and leaving to go to bed.

However, the little fairy was a doll. So she could not sleep. She instead sat on the table and waited for her first night to pass.

The next day, the dollmaker awoke and found his little fairy alone and sad. He walked over to her.

"What is wrong my little fairy? Why are you sad?" He asked.

"I am sad because after you had left, I was all alone." She replied, looking down at the table.

"Well I will make you friends! Beautiful friends" The dollmaker said, trying to cheer her up. The fairy smiled.

"Thank you! Thank you very much father!" She said, excited. For the rest of the day, the doll and the dollmaker worked together to create new dolls. After each doll, the dollmaker's skills got better, creating more and more beautiful dolls. At the end of the night, there were dozens of dolls. Tall, short, princes, princessses, even other fairies. The final doll was beautiful.

She had long brown hair, and a beautiful face. The doll's eyes were as deep as the ocean, and just as blue. She made the little fairy slightly jealous, and feel bad about her own imperfect appearance. So, the fairy decided to use her wings and help the dollmaker so she would be more useful.

The rest of the night, the fairy practiced flying with her green wings. When the dollmaker woke up, the fairy flew over to him.

"Good morning father!" she said with a smile.

"My precious! You can fly!" He said, shocked.

"Yes! And I want to help you make dolls today!" she replied happily.

"Of course my fairy." He said, flattered by her show of love. For the rest of the day, the little fairy would fly around and help the dollmaker. She helped customers that came into the store, and carried things for the dollmaker.

The days went on in perfection for months and months, until the fairy no longer seemed like a fairy to the dollmaker. To him, she was now just a worker at his store. Soon, the dollmaker began requiring the fairy to carry more and work harder.

One day, the little fairy was told to carry more than she could handle. The little fairy struggled, before she tumbled onto the ground.

"Doll!" her father yelled. "Why did you drop those tools?! If you can't carry my tools, then what use are your wings!" He said angrily, picking her up harshly. Unbelievably, the dollmaker ripped off the fairy's wings.

The fairy couldn't scream, or even cry, since she was not human. She was dropped back onto the pile of tools and ignored for the rest of the day. She laid there, hurt and empty for the rest of the night. Morning came, and the doll still put on a smile. The fairy still tried to help the dollmaker, even after what he had done to her.

For, the little fairy cared deeply for the dollmaker and believed he was right. She believed she had never deserved her wings, even though she did.

From then on, whenever the fairy would slip up from being pushed too far, she would be punished. And after every time the dollmaker broke part of her, she believed she deserved it. Many days went by until she would be punished again.

Soon, the little fairy could no longer stand, because both of her legs were broken. She could no longer smile either. Soon, she stopped talking all together. The magic between them was falling apart. In the end, the little fairy closed her eyes for the final time, since her father had now abandoned and forgotten her.

This was the end of a little doll, given life in exchange for love. For his love was never real.
