(Read part 1 in GoT One-Shots Book 2 first!)
You bit your lip as you looked down at the test in your hand. Pregnant. You were pregnant. At least that's what the four pregnancy tests said. One false positive you could believe, but four? There was no way you weren't pregnant. Part of you was happy, thrilled even, but another part was scared beyond all reason. Were you really ready to be a mother? And what about Ned? Your boyfriend was a wonderful man, he really was, but he already had seven children with his ex-wife. Could he possibly want another one?
"Y/N?" Ned's voice called out. You quickly hid all the evidence. This was not how you wanted him to find out. Once you were certain he wouldn't see any of the tests, you made your way out to the living room. Your older boyfriend instantly wrapped his arms around you and kissed you deeply. You sighed into the kiss. This is why you loved it when Ned came home. Outside your home, Ned tended to avoid PDA unless someone was making unwanted advances. At home, it was a completely different story. He showered you with affection.
"How are you?" he asked. You smiled and assured him you were alright. Ned kissed your forehead. "Wonderful. I'd like to take you out to dinner tonight, if you're willing?" You grinned. "That sounds great. Just let me go change." He let you go so you could get ready. The whole time, your mind was reeling. How in the world were you going to tell him that you were expecting his child? The thought stayed in your mind the entire time you go ready and all the way to the restaurant. You barely paid attention to what was being said.
"Y/N?" You blinked in surprise. Ned was watching you with a concerned gaze. "Are you sure you're alright? It's like you're in another place tonight." You felt your face heat up. "Sorry, Ned. I'm fine, really. Just have a lot on my mind." He smiled and reached over to set his hand on top of yours. "Anything I can do?" You shrugged a little. You weren't sure what he could do until you told him your secret.
Ned continued to look worried until you were headed home. Or you thought you were headed home anyway. Instead, Ned took a detour. To the park where you'd met. It was mostly empty now, but the soft lighting and the stars above were absolutely beautiful. Ned sat down with you and took your hand in his. For the first time that night, Ned had your full attention. For a moment, he stared at you. You smiled at him before leaning over to kiss him quickly.
"I love you, Y/N," he said simply, quietly. You have his hand a squeeze. "I love you too, Ned." Ned beamed as he slid off the bench and down to one knee. "Y/N, you came into my life at a point when I thought love was no longer in the cards for me. I was divorced with seven children and almost no social life. What hope did I have? But then you ran me over with your bike and my world changed." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a box.
"I know there's a rather big age difference between us and I know you probably weren't expecting to be with a man who already had children, but I don't think those things matter. You've shown my time and time again that they don't matter to you either. That you love me and my children. I never want to lose that. So, what I'm trying to ask, in a roundabout way is, will you marry me?"
You stared at him. You couldn't speak. When Ned took you out to dinner, you never expected this. "Y/N?" Ned asked, his face falling. You opened your mouth to answer him, but once again nothing came out. Ned looked like his heart was breaking so you tried again. But what came out wasn't what you intended. "I'm pregnant," you said softly as you shot up and practically ran back to the car.
"Y/N! Y/N, wait!" You didn't stop until you were at the car. By then, tears were running down your face. Ned caught up to you and wrapped his arms around you. He let you cry for a few more minutes. When you were done, he handed you a tissue. "How long have you known?" he asked quietly. "I found out today. I didn't know how to tell you. I mean, you already have so many children, why would you want another one?" Ned gently grabbed your arms and looked into your eyes.
"Of course I want children with you, Y/N. There's nothing I want more. Well, other than an answer to my question." You let out a soft, teary giggle. "Sorry. If you still want to, of course I'll marry you, Ned." Ned leaned in and kissed you, despite the fact that you were certain your lips tasted like your tears. "I love you," he whispered when he pulled back. "I love you too. I can't wait to be your wife."
