The hallways haven't been this empty since three months ago, when Marib Osham decided to plant a dozen fart-bombs in them an hour before lunchtime. The silent click-clack of my heels is the only sound in the too-quiet corridors, and I turn another corner as I wonder where everyone actually is.
Turns out, I don't have to wonder for long, because the giggles emanating from the janitors closet to my right assure me that my sister hasn't tricked me into coming to school on a weekend again.
"Martin! You are too loud, mister! We have to get her by surprise. She won't know what hit her. That b*|ch better leave me alone after this."A gleeful whisper accompanies the constant giggles behind the door.
This should be fun.
I mentally sigh as I duck behind a trashcan, waiting for the two losers to come outside. I know after two years of constant bullying who their intended target is- Me.
Martin Cisswell and Shruti Patel are the two reasons why I can never graduate. They are also the ones most likely hiding behind the door. I know why the want revenge- breaking Martin's nose and beating Shruti up apparently wasn't the best way to be friends with them.
It's not like I waltzed into school one day ready to beat up my classmates, get suspended, and have a black mark the size of New-York on my permanent record- but those idiots along with the school counsellor believe it to be so.
After losing Jane in the terrorist incident, I had no one apart from Jonah. Eventually, their constant bullying got to me and I finally decided to take matters into my own hands. It was going to be an innocent prank to show who's boss, but things got quickly out of hand. Blowing up a car is not something people easily forget.
Now all they want is revenge.
"The glue! Get the glue! And hurry, the meeting will be over in ten and everyone will notice that were gone!" Another whisper jolts me out of my reminiscence, and I smile. Now I know where everyone is. Apparently, a meeting the teachers conveniently forgot to tell me about.
I look around. The coast seems to be clear, so I get up, taking off my heels so as not to make a sound, and pass by the closet to make my way to the door that opens up to the corridor leading to the auditorium.
"Thanks for the warning, ya losers!" I yell, just before slipping in.They're turned the other way, waiting for me. My taunt makes them turn around and just for a minuscule second, I fool myself into feeling the smallest drop of satisfaction.
The moment passes quickly as I shake my head at the thought. Emotions I gave into are the reason my life is a mess in the first place. Despite the snake I now feel slithering in my stomach, I give them my biggest grin before I turn back into the corridor and lock the door behind me.
Someone's getting detention today.

Jonah Wiess is undoubtably the most level-headed, peaceful teenager in G-10, which is strange considering the fact that he is also my best friend. People have never been able to reconcile the image of sweet, caring, Jonah and beat-people-up-for-the-hell-of-it- me. But I suppose that our differences just make us better friends- there is only so much of yourself that you can handle. If Jonah suddenly decided to pick up nunchucks and blew up a car, I'd stop calling him a friend faster than you can say Macarena.
Well not really, but you get the idea, right?
"Where were you? " his deep voice questions, as he exits the auditorium, hands in his coat pockets and a silly grin on his face that on anybody else I would love to punch off. I never went inside the auditorium, and the students were dismissed just a few minutes ago. He shuffles ahead of me as I limp around trying to wear my heeled boots that I so stupidly took off just a few minutes before. I should have remembered the effort that goes into wearing shoes a tad too small- and I should also remember that a shopping trip is long overdue.
