January 1996

Mother cradling baby, she looked out of the window. The moon was shining on her little joys sleeping face. Her world. Her secret little peice of heaven. Her daughter. Luna. Yes. That was what she was to call her. Luna, after the moon. She had kept Luna a secret. As she did her heartbreak. She had fallen n love. Deeply in love with army soldier, Dan McPattingson. they planned to run away together, as soon as he had come back from his posting to the battleground. Their family, their life, Their own heaven But this never happened. It never did. The only things that she called her own slipped through her fingers. Dan never came back. He died in battle, or missing, but she always new that was an excuse to not write "Dead." and now she had nothing, no husband, nothing to keep her safe. she couldnt  su[[ort her little daughter, nor could she keep her. What life would baby Luna have? Running, leaving, packing, starving night, day and dawn. She could never do that to her daughter, Not like she had grown up like, she stayed with luna, cradling her her eyes closed, sitting at the end of her broken, rusty bed, crying, her tears falling on her babies lace baby covering. She held her tight, all she could give was love, nothing else. How far did that get her? No where. but it would this time. She would give her precious darling away, to have a better life, to thrive, to grow. She cradled her daughter, wrapped a locket, matching her own, with a picture of herself in it, for baby luna to always treasyre, to think of her. Mother put on her coat, her hood pulled down to her nose, and ran. Ran fast. with her suitcase, her daughter and her daughters teddy bear, she ran from her landlord, ran onto th late night tram. She stepped out of the tram after around 20 minutes. "Lightfield orphanage." she kissed her daughter, ooked at the sky as streaks of light amber leaked to the sky. Sun was rising, she kised her sleeping child, "Stay safe, my precious. Remember me. Have the life i so very much want for you and once craved myself. Goodbye." She cried, knocked on the orphanage door, and left her child in the warmth of a basket, heavily kept tight with rags of whatevr material her mother could find, she heard footstep come to the door, she looked back at her daughter and said "Goodnight, darling. we shall meet again. somehow." she pulled her hood on her head again, grabbed her suitvase, and ran off into the shadows, just as she saw her child being carried into the large, stone building. She gaazed down, with a locket matching her daughters, but with a picture of luna in. "Love hurts, yet it has protected you from a much darker evil". She ran into the distance, not looking back.
