It was cold that day,
But still I went out to play.
Running, listening to the crunching beneath my feet,
The bright light fell into the slumber.
A darkness covered the sky.
Only a single light
To lead me on my path.
A whispering hollow wind blew pass.
Wood grew from the ground.
Wicked branches grasping towards me.
I could not turn back.
Running, Running away from them,
I shall not be found,
Shall not be caught. A simple game it was.
Darker, the time was passing.
Shivers left my breath.
I stopped for a moment.
So difficult it was to keep moving.
Behind me, the path had no beginning.
Forward will I go?
Or turn back to where the footsteps were covered.
I must continue.
A path to a cave
To there I treaded
A light, a warmth was found just inside
A dark form sat without movement
Feathers extended from its skin
Could it be a form of evil?
"You should not be here,
Your time is not now.
The great coldness is outside.
It shall take many, but it shall not take you"
The great form spoke without emotion
An eerie wind blew into the cave
The flame did not leave us.
"Who are you,"
I asked taking small steps closer.
The face moved into view
Eyes on either side of the dark beak
"I am the one you meet at the end
I take those to their final rest
How rare it be to meet too early"
"I don't understand"
Closer to the warmth, I crept
A comfort that was needed most
"Call me what you wish young one,
Too early it is to know your fate"
Dark beautiful wings stretched out
Familiarity was found, "Raven."
The night passed.
The winds left.
Alone I was in the light.
To home I went,
And for the creature;
Nevermore did I see the raven,
Until that very day.
Years had passed
Friends came and left
Each new flame glistened in my eyes
A sweet taste in my mouth
One friend I had made
Had stayed for so long
Never did I need a leash to keep the friend close
Chasing, chasing I always did.
A happy bark,
A wagging tail.
A disk would fly through the air.
Never to be caught;
Always to be found,
All of this was his until the very end.
