Pairing: Luke x Reader

. . .

The night was a callous thing - that was for sure. But it was hard for Luke to see things that way when the dark sky of indigo stretched across their world, shadowing the creatures of the night like a visor that kept his eyes trained on one thing and one thing only. The moon agreed with a chivalrous grin, it's size stretched to its full glory as it sat within its throne that was the raven sky.

The backyard scenery was decorated with ivy and glowing lanterns strung high up from string off of large dark wood beams; star paper cutouts as well as a mess of scattered rose petals covered the cobblestone ground like sprinkles on a cupcake. Everything from the yellow glow of the lanterns poking and prodding at the enchanting evening background, to the melodic music that flowed out from booming speakers; enchanted him to no end and for once he found that he could actually compare himself to one of those charming princes from every story to the next. In a modest light of course. He hadn't slain a dragon, or saved a damsel in distress - but he had a princess and she was all that he needed.

She had worn a lacy red dress that twirled in the wind with her every movement and stopped right above her knees. It was all one solid color and resembled the hue of a scarlet rose; and she pulled it off flawlessly. Her favorite song had come streaming through the speakers and instantly filled her night with even more light and joy and she found herself stumbling onto the designated dance floor for the night, getting lost within the music without a care. She danced ridiculously for a few minutes, feeling a little tipsy from the drinks she had lightly sipped on earlier but remained sober enough to realize how goofy she must have looked in that moment. But she didn't care and continued to raise her hands high above her head till they stretched for the moon and stars with open palms.

She only slowed when her glossy eyes scanned her surroundings and they found themselves making love with his broad blue ones. And immediately her smile grew even wider till her pearly whites made a striking appearance underneath her curled lips.

He was positioned sluggishly in a lawn chair, wine glass in his hand as he watched her adoringly from a far. Each awkward hand motion she made as an attempted dance move brought a soft pat to strike his heart, and every giggle she released into the world of chatter was as beautiful as the song she danced to. When she appeared by his side, smiling like a complete and utter dork, he couldn't help but release a snort of humor at her expression. And even though she couldn't have looked any sillier in her tipsy state, he still found his lips parting uncontrollably when he spilled breathlessly, "You're so beautiful."

Her eyes glistened with an impish intent but her cheeks flamed with a warmth hotter than the fire that burned in the pit beside them, shooing any chill of the night away and out of their presence. Gently, and ever so timidly, her fingers curled around the palm of his free hand before she lured him into a standing position.

"Come on and dance with me, handsome."

And there was no way he was saying no to that offer. Setting his near empty glass of wine on the porch table, he then allowed her to lead him out into their crowd of friends who were enjoying their relaxing evening just as much as the happy couple was. The song - her song - had come closing to a peppy end the moment his designer soles slapped against the cobblestone of the dance floor and he swore his heart about exploded when yet, another, familiar slow tune came on the radio in perfect timing.

It was their song.

His hands wasted no time in encircling themselves around her waist, pulling her closer to him in one swift movement. She seemed delighted with his actions and placed a light peck against the shaggy blonde's lips, smiling at the feel of his stubble that tickled the corners of her mouth in response.

Even as they danced - especially as they danced - his mind couldn't shift from his daze that was filled to the max of her and for the millionth time that night, he cherished her beauty and glowed with love for his baby girl who relaxed against his chest as they swayed their hips and each other to their own song. The song he had written for her.

When his forehead had connected with her own, his gaze never leaving her bright eyes once; he realized he had never loved something, or someone as much as he found himself loving her. She was his everything - from his muse, to his best friend, to his lover in the sheets - she was everything. And even though he'd told himself a thousand times before, he understood simply that he was truly the luckiest man alive as long as he had her curled up against his chest at night and to kiss in the morning.

His voice was a whisper against her cheek, barely audible underneath the waves of melody that coaxed them to move and mingle within the crowd of lights, people, and life. But she managed to catch his whisper of desperation and each husky word caused welcomed chills to make her knees go weak and her mind to go blank.

"I've wanted this for so long ..."

Even though she knew what he meant; she could understand through the passion and love that drank his tone dry, she still asked, "What?" Because nothing would give her as much pleasure than hearing him admit it outloud.

"You."

And then he was leading her into a dip where her hair, unkempt and messy from her journey for fun this night, swept briefly across stone before he was pulling her backup, confessing eagerly, "God, I'm so in love with you." and then he was pressing his lips against hers to solidify his statement's meaning and she melted within his arms.
