Simone sat by Angel's side in the hospital bed. Her hand was holding onto his as he laid there, still. The only sound in the room being the steady beeping of one of the machines to keep track of his heart rate. Simone had already cried out all her tears while waiting for the ambulance, on the way to the hospital, sitting in the waiting room. Now all that was left was a pair of puffy red eyes and nose. Simone meant it when she had said she couldn't imagine a life without him and she wasn't prepared to try it.
The doctors weren't helpful either. They told her that all she could do was just hope for the best. It wasn't that long ago when she heard the same exact words about her sister. It's not good enough. She needed more. She needed to know that her husband was going to make it out of this okay. That he would wake up and they could work things out. The thought of this happening before they could truly reconcile...she couldn't stomach it. She squeezed his hand softly as she finally lifted her eyes up from the floor to look at him. "I don't care what they say. I know you're going to make it back to me. Remember when we first met? When we were walking outside of Midtown..." her voice slowly drifted off as she began to recall the memory herself. "You asked me what my deal was and said you got a vibe from me." She cracked a smile and even laughed a bit.
"Did I ever tell you that was the first time that I ever felt my heart really skip a beat for someone? It's like my body knew before my head did that I loved you." While she spoke, her thumb caressed his hand gently. There were a few moments of silence after that. Simone never questioned whether she loved him or not. She's always known. He was always the one for her. "You're my Clyde. I love you, Angel, and I need you to come back to me. You can't leave me again, not like this." Simone leaned up from her chair, moving forward to press her lips against Angel's. A tear managing to fall from her eyes and land on his cheek. After a few seconds, she pulled away and sat back down in her chair.
As soon as she sat, his hand squeezed hers back lightly. Soon after his eyes slowly blinked open. Simone gasped and stood up from her chair. All the tiredness from being up for days had suddenly disappeared. "Angel? Baby?" His eyes followed her voice, meeting hers as if they were falling in love all over again. His hand lifted painfully slow to remove the air mask that covered his face. He coughed trying to get the dryness out of his throat. "I told you...I'm not going anywhere."
