Leila's POV

"Seriously, Lucas?!" I whine, my eyes automatically rolling as I slide into the back seat.

"Not my fault. Took you long enough. As always." My brother, Lucas smirks as he reaches for the volume. I pout which makes him burst into laughter when I realize he was anticipating for my reaction through the rear-view mirror.

We're going to be in a 4-hour long drive. 2 days before, I was praying to claim the front seat but here I am, stuck in the back seat where a flood of irritation washes over me as I cross my arms. Lucas is 19. For others, it would be fair for an older sibling to own the passenger seat but I just think it's irritatingly unfair.

Before the air turns hot and negative, the driver's door opens where my Mother enters. Her figure falls perfectly in position into the heated leather seat. When the door shuts closed, my mouth shuts not easing my words further. I notice Lucas still smirking at me in the rear-view mirror. I throw him a glare. He knows that I wanted to be in that seat where his stupid butt is on, but the douchebag purposely slid in only to make my blood pop.

My mother glances at the both of us and sighed. "I want you both to behave. I don't want any rambling while I'm driving." She states, her voice sounding tired. Poor mom. She had to deal with Lucas' attitude towards me and doesn't even get full credit for it. Though I wish I could just strangle my brother and push him off of my seat but I could tell with my Mother's sluggish eyes that she just wants one day where she can be quiet and relaxed, so I push the thought of Lucas stealing my seat away and land my gaze to the sight of our house.

The rush of excitement consumes me, replacing the annoyed feeling from my stomach where it starts to linger away. I can't believe I'm going back. I know this summer will be different and happier than my last. A smile slowly forms into my lips. I didn't even realize my mom already started the engine.

All I know is that the car is slowly driving away from our house where it disappears out of sight, reminding me that this is actually real.

"Leila." A voice from the distance calls "Wake up, Leila." Or not from the distance. "Leila, we're actually gonna leave you if you don't wake up." Lucas mocks from the passenger seat. I must've fallen asleep at some point because once my lids flutters back to life, we're pulling up into the house. It's still as beautiful as I remembered it to be.

It was the same tan brick walls blending into the whites and blues. They're Carly's favorite colors. When I was younger, I always desired to have a house just like it. Seeing it for the first time in 7 years plasters awe into my features. I can imagine my eyes glistening at the sight of it.
