I listen to my friends go on and on about me being single and me needing a man.

"I mean come on Moe," Jordi my best friend begins, I roll my eyes. Already knowing what she's gonna say.

"You need to settle down soon." Jordi  demands, drinking from her glass of sweet tea as we sit in the bar.

I know what your thinking, '𝑤ℎ𝑦 𝑖𝑠 𝑠ℎ𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑑𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑙𝑐ℎ𝑜ℎ𝑜𝑙?'

Well Jordi is 6 months pregnant by her high school sweetheart Chresanto August, star football quarterback and he's playing in college.

"I'm only 21 Jordi, I don't wanna be tied down and not able to have fun and I've told you this multiple times." I reply defending myself as my other friend Cleo rolls her eyes.

"Fine, but I want you to come to Chresanto's football party since they won play offs." Jordi begs with a pout.

"Fine I'll go, but I can't stay long I have to be in the office early tomorrow." I answer, drinking from my glass that's almost filled to the top with Hennessy.

"Your ass is always working." Cleo playfully complains as I giggle.

"You know damn well my mama is not gonna let me take off for shit." I shake my head giggling.

"Your mama be tripping." Jordi begins, "she made me sit for an hour preaching when I told her I was pregnant." Jordi says as we all laugh.

I check the time on my phone.

I huff, "I gotta get home y'all. I have to get to the church early." I say, grabbing two five dollar bills out of my wallet for my drink.

I hug Cleo and Jordi before leaving the bar. Jordi and me have been best friends since day one, but me and Cleo met in high school. Sophomore year.

I walk to my car in the dark parking lot. The car next to me is rocking back and forth and the windows are foggy.

I scoff.

I unlock my car door and I get in, I get a text from Jordi and I open it.

I put my phone on my lap and I start the car, putting my seatbelt on. I pull out of the parking lot and I stop at a red light.

I turn on the radio and Act Up by the City Girls comes on.

I start dancing in my seat while singing along to the lyrics. I may be a preachers kid, but I can still have a lil fun.

I park in the parking lot of my apartment building. I get out and I grab the box from my trunk before locking my car.

I walk to the apartment building and it's teenage boys smoking weed while touching on the teenage girls.

𝐹𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑠.

I feel eyes on me and I turn around seeing one of the boys with a blunt in his mouth looking me up and down.

"Can I help you?" I scoff, holding the box with my one hand and putting the other on my hip.

"I just wanted to know if you needed some help upstairs baby." The boy walks up to me and smirks trying to grab my hand.

"Little boy don't touch me." I demand, snatching my hand away from him.

I turn around and I feel him slap my rear. I hear his friends laugh and I put the box on the stairs.

I turn around and I back hand him. I hear the echo from the slap as I grit my teeth.

"Don't you ever, ever." I begin.

"Put your nasty, filthy ass hands on me again. I'll show you how I get down." I spat, his friends all look shocked and he's holding his now red cheek.

I turn around and grab the box, walking up to the fifth floor. I unlock my apartment door and I kick my heels off my feet.

I lock the door and I walk to the kitchen/living room. The kitchen and living room is only separated by a wall.

I sit the box on the counter and I grab a knife to open it. I slice it open and I put the knife down, I grab the first thing I see and it's a jacket.

I immediately recognize the smell, my father.

My father was killed two months ago, my mother was gonna have his things burned. But I managed to grab one box of his things before they could get burned.

I put the jacket back in the box and I close it up. I turn the kitchen light off and I walk down the hall to my room.

I get in a quick shower and I put on a black see through night gown. I put my hair in a ponytail before laying down.

The busy streets of New York puts me to sleep..
